Re: Hello everyone

Welcome to the forum! It looks like you are probably within a reasonably short distance from the club’s main annual gathering which is in Peebles this year. Here is a link to the website just in case you are interested. https://www.dlocrally.com/

Re: Cylinderhead Gasket Daimler 15

Hello, I can’t talk for the Daimler 15 but i can confirm it wasn’t unheard of for the manufacturers to improve cooling by using revised head gaskets to block some of the water passages. I use one of these revised gaskets (copper) in my 1933 Lanchester. In fact, i have a road test article for my car ...

Re: Daimler LQ 3-20 - tyre size - differential oil

Another club member but not a forum member has asked me to reply. He says .... earlier LQ20s were 5.50 x 19, and the later cars 6.00 x 19. The tyre pressures front and rear were 38psi. The diff oil was as most (all?) of our cars at the time, Daimler Heavy Gear Oil, so 140 grade should be more than u...

Re: Daimler LQ 3-20 - tyre size - differential oil

Hi Beat, I expect the tyre size will be in the Drivers Instruction Manual. Do you have a copy? If you don’t and you are a member of the DLOC, I would suggest you contact the Press and Publicity Director (contact details in the DM). He may be able to send you a digital copy. My Lanchester 15/18 takes...

Re: In line thermostat

Bob, Thanks for your reply. Interesting to see the Daimler 15 thermostat housing. The Lanchester 15/18 just pre-dates the standard fitting of thermostats, so any that have / had it are modifications. I'm not sure whether to persist. One thought is that maybe the radiator water level was too high (al...

Re: In line thermostat

I thought i'd give an update. Not a good result i'm afraid! I bought a universal aluminium thermostat housing and 74 degree thermostat. A local firm welded it into an aluminium pipe for me to fit between the water pump housing and radiator. It also incorporates an outlet which I connected with a rub...

Re: Leda Bootlid

Hi, Here’s another photo from the article in The Autocar (dated 13th Oct 1950). The boot is described as follows, “At the back of the body is a large inbuilt locker with its lid opening upwards on balanced hinges, and a separate compartment for the spare wheel beneath its floor”. The photo doesn’t s...

Re: Leda Bootlid

I was browsing through a 1950 Autocar and found a review of the Lanchester 14. I attach one of the photographs from the article which shows the boot lid in the open position. All the best, Ranald

Re: Steering shakes....

Hello, I’m not sure if what you are experiencing is a “steering shimmy” but if so, there is lots of information in early motoring books and the internet. e.g. http://www.hydrosteer.com.au/steer-axle ... -problems/
