Re: Alternator needed for electric fan?

An alternator charges at idle, a dynamo requires higher rpm, so when stuck in traffic you will discharge the battery unless you set the rpm to about 2000rpm, the more electrical devices running the higher the rpm, on hot dark night and raining it may be impossible to balance the load, there again it...

Re: V8-250 Saloon: Cylinder Head Retorquing

If the rocker clearances need to be checked then the head may need re -torquing, the only way the clearances will change is if the head moves closer to the block, i.e the head gasket has crushed due to heating and cooling consistent with creep due to load of the torque, if the tappet clearances have...

Re: Dart / MGB window regulator fitting

It was a long time ago, but I think the coil spring was either the same or similar, the windows are of a similar size so as it would make very little difference.

Re: Dart / MGB window regulator fitting

Never looked at the Mk2 when I did it the MGB was in plentiful supply and cheap. The MGB had the same base plate dimensions as the SP so it was a no brainer

Re: Dart Temperature Gauge

It's a Dart/SP250 the oil pressure gauge is a mechanical one, no electrics and no voltage stabilizer, the fuel, temperature and ammeter can all be easily calibrated by adjusting the coils, two screws on the rear of the instrument/gauge are loosened and moved in the slots this will change the needle ...

Re: Dynamator output

Whoops sorry Nick, read it as a dynamo
If that is the reading from a multi meter then that is the RMS value the AC component is higher, about 18v and could well cook the battery if left too long or even melt wiring insulation

Re: SP250 strange braking behaviour

I would suggest that the fault to the brakes is not warped discs or wheel bearings, the only fault that can cause uneven braking without the pedal sensing the uneven braking is a patch on the disc or discs that is of a higher frictional value to the rest of the disc, for example there is a slight ru...
