Re: SP250 Clutch Slave Cylinder

The SP was at its lowest price between the late 60's and the middle 70's the Classic scene took off and the SP with it though albeit slower than some, most SP owners from the early 70's were very keen and mostly good amateur mechanics who strove to keep the cars original, as the price increased the ...

Re: Overheating

Depends on what one understands as overheating, to me anything over 195f or beyond the white arc is overheating, this shouldn't happen with normal driving above 30mph, basically when the needle is vertical that's where it should be in normal driving on any day. When used in competition it will go to...

Re: Overheating

The original fan was barely adequate when the car was built, by the time the 70's arrived the traffic was such that the engine overheated in most cities and many of us fitted electric fans, the blades have very little angle to have a decent flow and at 500rpm hardly stir the air. With the traffic to...

Re: Borg Warner 35 - Auto Gearbox Weight

Does that include flywheel and clutch? The real comparison must include all components, gearbox, flywheel, bellhousing of both boxes.

Re: Re building an engine

As I understand it only standard bore can have A,B or C pistons whether they are at the top or anywhere else, however as your engine is ex college I would check the bore and remove at least one big end and main to check what you have in way of regrind or condition. Being ex college it will have been...

Probably the usual the advance drive seized to the main shaft, quite common.

Re: SP250 residual brake pressure valve and remote servo - brakes binding?

Fully agree on the free play, however the restrictor valve is what it says, it restricts the flow to the rear brakes to avoid lock ups, it does not hold a pressure and shouldn't hold a pressure. To check where you think the there is pressure hold on the brakes, put the car on axle stands, check the ...

Re: V8-250: Oil - 20W/60

Hi Richard, I always poured new oil in until it flowed clear at the sump, car was jacked so there was a slight tilt to the drain, the oil stayed bright green for at least 1000 miles.

Re: V8-250: Oil - 20W/60

I am not so sure the Turner V8 is a dirty engine, I suspect that it has earned that reputation due to local short runs or mostly town work, back in the early 70's I regularly commuted between Sunbury on Thames and the Portsmouth area with a few runs to Southampton and the New Forrest whilst in that ...

I seem to remember they are not peculiar to the SP.
