Re: Sp250 Brake Restrictor Valve

36psi is not high when you consider the surface area of two pistons being pushed back by the disc down a 3/16 diameter pipe the advantage must be at least 100-1, for normal road use this will not be a problem as there will be very little flex on the axle causing the pad ride out, once the pads clear...

Re: SP250 gearbox

It's basically a TR3 gearbox with some slightly different tolerances, if the gears are OK then a set of bearings is all you need and possibly some shims and synchro rings, the workshop manual gives all the dimensions and tolerances and any competent mechanic in the classic industry should be able to...

Re: Hood wooded front rail - protection?

Regarding your hood Tim, the front rail consists of the wood with the hood material wrapped round and glued to the inside ( no wood can be seen) there is then a "L" shaped rubber strip that fits over the top front of of the screen when the hood is up, the "L" rubber seal is attached to the underside...

Re: SP250 windscreen rebuild

The screws are definitely 1/8 UNC, though in your case heh that is fairly immaterial, but I would think about making new joint pieces in stainless

Re: SP250 windscreen rebuild

I would advise using a new rubber windscreen seal, the old ones get hard and if the screen is not quite right in curvature it will crack the screen, it is not so critical with toughened screens (if available and legal now) as they will take some extreme bending, the new softer seals give a decent wr...

Re: SP250 windscreen rebuild

Though the windscreens look the same the actual construction is different, on the Mk2 as yours is there is more machining and extra steel bars holding it together, the original screen was not as rigid and flexed at the joints. Regarding the bracing template you have manufactured, just ignore it, the...

Re: Hood wooded front rail - protection?

The wooden rail is of a hardwood originally, possibly mahogany, it is well covered by the hood material if fitted correctly and should not be exposed to any weather, having lived and sailled on the West Coast of Scotland I can assure you most varnishes are useless if exposed to weather and require a...

Re: SP250 windscreen rebuild

Your windscreen seems to be a Mk2 my 1960/61 SP had a different construction arrangement though the actual frame sections are the same as the later screens my C spec has. The countersunk screws are/were 1/8 UNC they suffered from rusting and seizing, requiring drilling out, if possible it would be a...

Re: 1964 saloon radio removal

If the radio has the holes for the two pronged removal tool it is an after market fitting the radios using that system are post 1980, before that they either used Chris's description or were screwed in from the side with two screws each side. Very few cars were factory fitted with radios in 1964, my...

Re: SP Door Furflex seal cap

That's what I have always thought Nick, my C spec which is highly original the furlex was cut at the rubber and the cloth covered the end of the rubber and screwed to the B pilar under the leather cloth trim
