Re: 250 saloon engine overheating

Should you want the water to return to the header tank/radiator the cap on the header tank cap should be plain and the overflow tank should have the pressure cap. When testing the engine how was it cooled? I am assuming the radiator from the car wasn't fitted, can you replicate the testing cooling s...

Re: 250 saloon engine overheating

The thermostat is not the problem, it is there to regulate the engine temperature to a given range and will not cause overheating if missing. Despite the engine being rebuilt head gasket failure could still be a problem as could sludge in the block, there are various chemicals that can be introduced...

Re: Car SOS Daimler SP250 Dart

I always thought the easiest way to change the park position was to turn remove the wipers and cable, then turn the wiper boxes the other way up, re-thread the cable through and put the wiper arms back on after the motor has parked the empty spindles. 47 That seems a lot of work rather than just ad...

Re: Car SOS Daimler SP250 Dart

The park position is adjusted by slackening off the round lid on the motor and rotating, when the wipers are switched off the circuit is held by a wiper to earth, when the wiper hits the Paxolin insert the wipers stop. Removing the wipers only changers the area wiped not the park, be aware that slac...

Re: Draining Engine Oil

I always poured in new oil until it ran out of the sump drain, about 1.5l was required, seemed to work as the oil was very green after starting the engine (Duckhams)

Re: Upgraded Oil Pump

I would suggest a stronger spring rather than packing, packing reduces the spring travel which may in certain cases reduce the relief flow. The pump is designed to relief at about 50psi, it may well be that is all the engine requires when within design tolerances, increasing the pressure could resul...

Re: Upgraded Oil Pump

When you check the seller it appears to be Russ Carpenter's business, one does wonder what the OEM pump could produce with a stronger relief spring?

Re: V8 250 Significant Change in Oil Pressure

The sensor works with an carbon pile within the sensor casing, the pile consists of carbon discs as pressure is increased the resistance decreases thus allowing a greater voltage thus moving the needle higher up the scale similar to the fuel gage and unfortunately just as accurate.

Re: Probably done to death but radio interference!

The aerial should only be earthed at one end preferably the radio end, do not use the aerial as -ve supply, the SP radio suppression with top hat over the distributor with arms to the two plates covering the heads and leads, with all that fitted I never had a problem

Re: Cylinder block core plugs

First rule of engineering, if it's hard hit it with a softer tool, if you wish to distort it hit it with a harder tool, Core plug soft, hammer OK, hammer on hammer, both hard not OK, the only time you use hard on hard is if you wish to break something (ie a seized bearing on a shaft) in that case ta...
