Re: Automatic gear selector adjustment and gearbox issue

I had exactly this issue with mine, not being able to select park. Adjustment underneath was out as the ball and socket could not be freed for me to turn it (it's been set for 50 years!). In the cab beneath the steering wheel the ball and socket there was at the extreme of its adjustment there too -...

Re: Re building an engine

I've considered doing it myself, but have narrowed it down to using a specialist local to me. I contacted Russ who seems an absolute giant in the field, very approachable and was full of useful advice. He would be my number 1 choice but sadly though he couldn't fit me in until late next year, such i...

Re: Re building an engine

So here we go. The engine is out and dangling by a piece of string in my garage 8) . It wasn't without eventfulness - the torque converter didn't stay nicely where it should have in the bell housing, necessitating the rempoval of the fan at the last minute to get enough clearance. Then the engine cr...

Re: Re building an engine

Bullet bit ..... started taking the engine out today. Bottom end rebuild is the plan. New main bearings, crankshaft regrind etc. Seems the main bearings should be replaced in the 46k mile service. I'm guessing this has never been done. So far so good - only 1 exhaust flange stud sheared (fresh how i...

Re: Re building an engine

Chris, thank you. This insight ties beautifully with mutterings given by my elderly neighbour (retired engineer from the motor industry) and other comments I've heard. It helps develop a picture of what's going on and what can be done. Strangely, I went to a very highly regarded classic/vintage engi...

Re: Re building an engine

Hello chaps - my first post here. Apologies if I dive into another's thread - but it is on the topic of engine rebuilds. First an introduction: After working my way through a range of classic cars over the last 30 years or so; MG Midget bought in 1992 (I still have it), BGT, Scimitar GTE, Rover 3500...
