Re: Engine rebuild

Hi, I have purchased rings from B. Thorne in the past. The problem I had was that the bore of the ring was too small for the crank to rotate. I filed them utilizing a micrometer to achieve uniformity. I found the shimsteel method described in the workshop manual very effective in the removal of the ...

Dart with hood fitted

Hi All, I am having my hood re-fitted professionally, as the rear window area is not taut.
To this end, can someone please post a good clear pic. of the rear window area hopefully showing well fitted, taut, windows without ripples etc., that I can pass on to the fitter.

Thanks Dave.

Re: Oil on cam cover?

Hi Jim, Sorry I missed you. Lawrence reckoned that the leak comes from under the ignition lever, ie. the plate that clamps the dizzi. to the dizzi. bracket. To that end I have made an "o" ring from soft rubber cord and fitted this between the plate and the bracket. It will be some time before I will...

Re: Oil on cam cover?

Talking to Lawrence Jones yesterday at the NEC show. He was adamant that the oil was coming from the base of the distributor. I shall look again to see if I can utilize some form of seal.

Re: Oil on cam cover?

I have owned four Darts over the years and all of them eventually tend to get some oil in the tappet chest cover. I do not believe this has come from topping up the oil, but I do not know where it comes from. In my case I think it is unlikely that it is from the distributor, as I get oil in both of ...

Re: Swopping from solid to wire wheels

Hi, You cannot remove the halfshaft before the hub is removed.

Here is my home made puller, which works quite well.

Re: Transmission cover

Hi, There is only an "O" ring seal no circlip. Have you tried gripping the body with mole grips and rotating slightly? there may be a slight burr where the locating pin fitted.

Re: oil feed banjo bolt

Hi, They are 1/2inch A/F.
The problem is that the hex. flats are not very wide.
I undid mine with mole grips and have had 9/16 A/F nuts welded on the heads for the future.

Re: V8-250 3.54 diff conversion

Hi Richard, I have not changed axle ratios, but I have rebuilt axles.

There are three important points to note. Great care must be taken to achieve the correct tooth contact, the min. backlash [ie. no less] and the preload setting on the drive pinion.

With these achieved you should be fine.
