Dart 60th anniversary

What a great show yesterday. Managed to take both Darts [with the help of my son]. Great to see some old friends and meet some new ones. Many splendid cars from quite a few parts of the world. The weather was kind, with only one short downpour of rain and the tonneau coped very well. A big thank you...

Dart rear axle oil seal

I recently discovered a leak from the half shaft oil seal. The original seal was of the leather type which are now rare to find. I purchased the DMG replacement which is the modern neoprene type. The shaft diameter where the seal runs is 1.312in. The replacement seal I/D is 1.260in. ie. 0.052in. int...

Re: To switch or not to switch.

I have experienced that scenario as Nick suggests whereby, the engine would not start when I inadvertently stalled it whilst the fan was running.
Therefore, I have wired mine through the ignition switch.

Re: SP250 engine timing

I spoke to Russ Carpenter Years ago and he told me to set the static timing to 10deg. BTC.
I did this and both of my Darts start easily, perform well and give good m.p,g.
This is with original ignition set up.

Re: Brake backing plate rusted to bits

I do not know if these are similar to the Dart ones but, if they are it is not difficult to make some from 16swg sheet steel,
This is what I did using the old ones as a template. The attachment arms also 16swg., were pop riveted to the backing plate.
Sorry, no pics. available.

Re: 250 v8 rear hub removal (i hope)

Over the years I have removed numerous rear hubs with this bit of home made kit. I never need to use a hammer but as you can see the allen key has been quite taxed. I just attach it to two of the studs and use a small spacer to prevent damage to the half shaft end. Then a 4ft. long heavy tube provid...

Yes Kevin, That was the chap I had them off.
Looking at what he supplied, the tees look just like the Pegler ones on their website.

Re: Heater/Carb water pipes

Some years ago I bought a stainless kit from a gent in the club and this works very well. Sadly I think he is no longer with us, so no availability. Having looked at the fittings I believe them to be Pegler push fit fittings and it seems they are available in various metric sizes. They can only be a...

Re: Engine dying after short distance

This happened to me when I had fitted a modern fuel pump. The new pump pressure was too great, so I fitted a regulator in the line to reduce the delivery.
This solved the problem.
