Re: Crankshaft damper

As said above, my flat steel bar is wedged against the chassis and rather than striking anything I have a 4 foot long heavy gauge hollow steel bar which I use in conjunction with the socket breaker bar. I find this a much more gentle way for removal of the nut. If the engine is out of the car then j...

Re: Crankshaft damper

Hi, I utilize a flat bar of steel located between the bolt heads on the damper pulley and the chassis. This prevents any rotation of the crankshaft. Then a socket on the nut which is a R H thread.

Re: Rare Spares?

I believe the person mentioned is one and the same. I would be most concerned if I had purchased a pair and fitted them sometime in the future and ultimately had had a breakage possibly causing an accident. Apparently steel castings are 30% less strong than drop forgings. I wonder if one's insurance...

Re: Rare Spares?

I believe someone did make some cast steel replacements as has been said and one of them which had been fitted by a purchaser actually snapped whilst the car was being driven.

HI, The std. bore size is 76.2mm. Pistons and brg. shells are usually available from Manners , B. Thorne or you could use F W Thornton Shrewsbury.

Re: Siezed engine STILL.!

Hi Brian, Yes that's the one. Coat both sides of the gasket. Every aperture, just a thin bead of cement.
I think the only issues I have ever had is when there is erosion around the water slots in the cylinder head. This can be cured by welding prior to the being re-skimmed.

Re: Siezed engine STILL.!

Hi, I have fitted a few cylinder heads over the years and have never had one fail to seal first time.
I always use Hylomar gasket seal 2000. I put a thin bead of sealant around every aperture on both sides of the gasket before fitting.
Good luck.
