Yes! My uncle was a maintenance fitter at S.U. in Adderley Park until he left and went to work at the nearby Ansells Brewery in Witton, where unfortunately, in 1952 he fell into a vat of beer and was drowned. ....................... ........................... although he did get out three times to ...

Re: spare tyre

If you go onto a tyre supplier's website and key in your tyre size, it will come up with the range of makes they have available. Then you can click on each individual manufacturer's technical data which among other things, will give you the diameter of their product. Overall tyre diameters do vary f...

Re: Basics engine help!

Pity you are so far away - I'd put it right and set your carbs while you put the kettle on.

Re: Daimler Carburetors

I'm afraid not Christopher - the holes in the choke plate a quite large and some are infact "redundant" The carb as the facility to have up to ten jets, dependant upon which engine size it is to be fitted to. Mine has five jets. These jets are brought into play as a heavy internal brass bell is lift...

Re: How unusual!

About fifty years ago, there was a tramp who toured the villages around Oxforshire with two donkeys and a little three-wheeled caravan, and he would put on shows for the kiddies for a few pennies. Painted on the side of his caravan it read "Abel's Animal Antics". When some thugs stole his megre savi...

How unusual!

I saw something this morning which I've not seen since a small boy - a genuine "gentleman of the road" - a tramp! He came ambling very very slowly through the village, unkempt, with straggly hair and beard, and with a massive pack on his back - and although he may have been an ecentric millionaire -...

Re: Daimler Carburetors

Hi Chris, Firstly, thank you for your continued interest, but my particular model of Daimler carburettor does not have an air valve for the primer. It works like this (having taken Sydsmith's advice and had some shredded wheat): The slow-running jet is submerged in the float bowl and drillings throu...

Re: Daimler Carburetors

Thank you Steve, it is most kind of you to offer, although I glean from the internet the books are circa 1927 - so they don't cover my particular engine. The basic method of checking and setting the sleeve (valve) timing was the same for all Daimler engines - although the actual timing itself varied...
