Re: backfire

Best and cheapest way is to make up your own leads - as its a very simple job as you can buy copper cored H.T. lead by the metre, and six plug caps of your choice. The engine will start immediately as you don't have to wait for the electric to go through the new H.T. lead as it comes pre-filled with...

Re: Strange Case of Door Handles

Nothing wrong with your memory John-B, that's how they were - one lock on the front passenger door - you get in then slide across! You can of course fit a locking handle on the drivers' door if you wish, and I believe on the Conquest range the door handles are the same as Morris Oxfords of that peri...

Re: special sport front brakes

Hi David, Right - now we are getting somewhere! It sounds very much to me that you may well have a mix of lining material on the shoes - hence the change in braking effect as the linings are heated by aggrivated application. Barrie may well be right about the drums, but if they are "skimmed" on a la...

Re: special sport front brakes

Hi David, Firstly, given you have attended to the relevant components, it is not your hydaulics - as the very purpose of using such a system is to provide total balance of braking force applied to the wheels. That said, I trust you have also checked out the mechanism and operation of the rear brakes...

Re: Fuel Gauge Conundrum

Well. .............................. No! You see the sender unit in the tank is merely a variable resitance, and the fuel guage a voltmeter with different markings - so as the fuel level drops the resitance gets more and the (voltmeter) fuel guage registers a lower (voltage) value. As the fall of th...

Re: Fuel Gauge Conundrum

The fuel guage measures the whole quantity of fuel in the tank which therefore includes reserve - which is simply a second feed pipe the inlet of which is a bit lower than the normal "non-reserve" feed pipe.

Re: Daimler 15 starting

You cannot "jump start" a Daimler with a pre-select transmission in the conventional way of just a slow-speed tow - but as stated in a previous post the fluid flywheel will couple at about 15 - 20 mph. You need to tow or roll down a hill - but with top gear selected, not a lower gear. Done it, been ...

Re: Grab a bargain

Then you must add postage. .......................

(thinks. ........) Why does the price of almost everything to-day end in "99" - and what will we do when the universe finally runs out of number nines?

Re: Daimler DB18 rod end greaser

I think Nick might well be right - as you are in France and its more likely your track-rod ends were made on the continent, they could be metric. The solution therefore is to trot off to your local "nut and bolt" stockist and see what screws into them - that will identify the thread form and you can...

I could make them almost as quickly as it took the vendor to type the ad!
