Re: Fuel Gauge Conundrum

Well. .............................. No! You see the sender unit in the tank is merely a variable resitance, and the fuel guage a voltmeter with different markings - so as the fuel level drops the resitance gets more and the (voltmeter) fuel guage registers a lower (voltage) value. As the fall of th...

Re: Fuel Gauge Conundrum

The fuel guage measures the whole quantity of fuel in the tank which therefore includes reserve - which is simply a second feed pipe the inlet of which is a bit lower than the normal "non-reserve" feed pipe.

Re: Daimler 15 starting

You cannot "jump start" a Daimler with a pre-select transmission in the conventional way of just a slow-speed tow - but as stated in a previous post the fluid flywheel will couple at about 15 - 20 mph. You need to tow or roll down a hill - but with top gear selected, not a lower gear. Done it, been ...

Re: Grab a bargain

Then you must add postage. .......................

(thinks. ........) Why does the price of almost everything to-day end in "99" - and what will we do when the universe finally runs out of number nines?

Re: Daimler DB18 rod end greaser

I think Nick might well be right - as you are in France and its more likely your track-rod ends were made on the continent, they could be metric. The solution therefore is to trot off to your local "nut and bolt" stockist and see what screws into them - that will identify the thread form and you can...

Question:

Do you have to wait three weeks to see the Distributor Doctor - like you do if you ring our surgery in Penkridge?

Re: backfire

Hi Thomas (strange - a Welsh name in Scotland - although I did once know a man named Paddy McThomas. .......... but I digress). Your problem is invariably the ignition system, with the spark breaking down under load. Check all connections first. Check the points are O.K and correctly gapped (better ...

Re: Sleeve valve engine on fleabay.

Your right of course Syd. Sadly far too many sleeve valve engines were "junked" years ago to fit leaping stick engines - but you have to bear in mind that old classic cars just did not command today's prices, so people just saw them as disposable cheap transport. (i.e. I paid £200 for my then totall...

Re: DB18 Gear Selection Problem

Your problem may be one of two things - or both - but it is very unlikely the gearbox requires attention if it is possible to get all gears, even with some difficulty. So here goes: Most likely, it is the linkage , given you can get top gear from 2nd when the movement of the linkage as such provides...
