Check the two sides of the gap in the hub are not butting together, and you can obtain a little more "pinch" by running a hacksaw down the gap in the hub (use two blades in the hacksaw if necessary), then slightly enlarging the hole in the hub where the clamp screw passes through to allow for alignm...

The car should be fitted with a Clayton Dewandre vacuum servo unit evacuated by a pipe leading off from the inlet manifold.

Prepare for a gob full of petrol!! An old trick of the trade is to remove the outlet pipe from the pump and attach a length of tubing and suck until fuel comes through - but if you use clear plastic tube you can stop sucking just in time. What is the insert made of, is it phosphor bronze, is there a pressurised oil feed to the journal - and is it a loose (or even spring loaded) or a permanent fixture? There are quite a number of veneer suppliers on the 'net - and the quantity you need is the area as measured for each piece. Usually, Walnut is used as a veneer on flat vertical facings such as the dashboard, with the horizontal faces of the dash and door capings in the natural wood. Remember though...
