Re: Internet requests

You must remember - people do not appreciate you for what you have done in the past - only for your usefulness in the future.

Re: conquest chassis lubrication

The auto chassis lubrication on the Conquest range relies upon thermal expansion insofar as there is a small steel "expander-bottle" located near the exhaust which contains two one-way valves - each pointing in the same direction. As the oil in the reservoir heats up, it expands past the outlet valv...

Re: special sport gearbox.

Follow Davidian's advice and don't alter the top gear adjustment. As he says, the brake bands are worn given th evidence of how their adustment looks. However, top gear is a multi-plate steel clutch which does not have brake bands to wear down - and that is why top gear appears to have so much adjus...

Re: special sport gearbox.

Hi Davidian, Use only a straight S.A.E. 30 grade mineral oil in the gearbox - which is sold over here as "classic car" engine oil - so hopefully there will be something identical where you are. From your latest post, it appears your problem is still there - and no, you don't have to run the car as p...

Re: special sport gearbox.

Subject - Correct flushing of epileptic-cyclist gearboxes. Take the car on a run first to get the gearbox to operating temperature, then drain off the oil. Put in your solvent, (about half normal capacity will do) then run the engine for a minute or so in neutral to wash all the planetary gears, pum...

Re: special sport gearbox.

The previous post is very sound advice - and indeed what was the standard procedure in the workshop before any further action when attending to a defective gearbox. Although a small possibility, it could be someone has put the wrong oil in the box which will adversely affect top gear engagement, as ...

Re: Head Lamp Help Please

Contac Keith Ardley in Ely direct - phone number 01353 778493.

He re-silvered my headlamp reflectors and did a superb job, and his prices are very reasonable, as he charges by the inch of diameter.

Be careful not to go to anyone who sends them to him anyway and charges a mark-up!!

Re: backfire

Best and cheapest way is to make up your own leads - as its a very simple job as you can buy copper cored H.T. lead by the metre, and six plug caps of your choice. The engine will start immediately as you don't have to wait for the electric to go through the new H.T. lead as it comes pre-filled with...
