Re: Dating a registration number

Hi Graham, Having discovered where a car was originally registered - it is then well worth contacting the relevant council anyway as they often do have old records still on file even though the info would have been transfered when we "centralised" to the DVLA. I contacted Stoke-on-Trent Council and ...

Re: Are garages open for repairs and MOTs?

Why do you say "insurance companies"? Your car of course must be insured - but if you say it in the context of being deemed uninsured for not having an M.O.T. then it is an insurance cop-out. If you were invoved in an accident it would still remain necessary for an insurance company to field evidenc...

Re: Stainless steel exhaust

How noisy a stainless steel exhaust system is depends not just on the amount of baffling etc. in the silencer - but the thickness of the material used - so ask that of your intended supplier - for which I believe there are laid down specs. One other important factor often overlooked is that when ass...

Re: Million-to-one shot!

Good idea Peter - but the difficulty is you cannot convey the ridge-cuttings (the "humps" on the edge of the key) by photograph to the degree required to provide dimensions. I've sent for four H & TV keys off ebay for £8 - that's £2 per "try" - which is better odds than the lottery. Next step is to ...

Re: Million-to-one shot!

Thanks for your continued help and interest "Norfolk lad". I don't have a key, other than one which will slide in. As with the design of all this type of lock, with the door open (of course) if you put the proper key in and turn it to to the locked position, you can then insert a piece of stiff wire...

Re: Million-to-one shot!

Yes - they are like the ones on ebay and I followed them up and although they do not specifically have the right number, I tried to buy the four advertised together thinking it was "worth a try" - but ebay rejected my attempt and I've heard no more! what are the three keys in your previous picture a...

Re: Million-to-one shot!

Thanks Chris - but although it is sheer co-incidence, the range of "LL" designated keys this chap supplies are for Hudson locks not vintage H & T Vaughn from Wolverhampton but who sold out to Chubb in 1928 - so I'll just have to keep looking!
