Re: Pre war suspension....

Just one word of warning. ................. If you do fit telescopic dampers, avoid any form of welded on fittings - and especially DO NOT weld any brackets direct to the front axle, as it is a specially heat-treated steel. P.S. Nothing wrong with Luvax dampers when serviced correctly, of which the ...

Re: Conquest head torque

You should not have a problem with a Conquest cast iron head - and in any case 30/35 lbs/ft would be sufficent not to have water leaks - so you probably do have a problem somewhere. However, are you sure your torque wrench is accurate? That said, if you use a copper gasket you must coat it liberally...

Re: Conquest Preselect alignment

Hi, I think you mis-read my earlier post. The angle of the bend in the selector lever where the ball-joint attaches is irrelevant. Just increase the angle of the bend in the thicker section of selector lever which will then shorten the effective pitch circle - causing the selector movement to circum...

Re: Conquest Preselect alignment

Try this. Given you can select all gears by moving the lever on the gearbox means the problem is there is insufficient stroke of the selector mechanism relative to the movement of the lever depicted in the picture you have posted. Imagine the arc swept by the linkage. If you bend up the lever a litt...

Re: Treatment of Bakelite steering wheels

If you cannot get the polishing paste Peter recommends, try this on a part of the steering wheel which does not show, but as a test first: Flat the surface with 2000 grit paper using water and a just a splash of liquid soap. Then polish with a felt buff and white compound as you would aluminium. Don...

Re: Daimler 15 circa 1934 rolling chassis

You are so right about the tyres Peter! It is astounding to reflect someone was actually driving the car on the road to get the tyres into that condition, so no wonder MOT tests were introduced 60 years ago - and which also prompts the question of whether or not it is now such a good idea to exempt ...

Re: Majestic Major Saloon 4.5 V8 - mid 60's appraisal

Good morning Helstebrod, I'm afraid it is impossible to value your grandfather's car, especially as you do not say which country you are in, given there is no fixed "global" value for any car, as what it may be worth varies considerably dependant upon area and interest and exchange rates etc. if you...

Re: One thousand

Hi John-B,

I'm afraid you have set something of a president calling Syd "Grumpy" - so being a direct conotation with the seven dwarfs in Snow White, here's your challenge:

Who are you going to call the other six?? i.e:

Dopey - Doc - Happy - bashful - Sneezey and Sleepy?

Stan.

Re: Lumiweld Information

Good idea Big Col - the one in Wolverhampton won't sell parts, niether will the other four companies I've tried. I've machined a hub and milled six slots to take the correctly shaped "vanes" already, but need to get them tig welded into place - having done a test piece with Lumiweld - which I'm not ...
