Re: Recommissioning BSA 10
Hello again, John. I cannot speak highly enough of the BSAFWD. They have been of immense support to me these last 6 months. Great knowledge and good suppliers of bits. Have got an owner's manual? There are bits about adjusting the settings for the gearbox. I also blew out all the jets and drillings ...

Re: Recommissioning BSA 10
Hi, John. I bought, off an auction house, a 10 last year. It was, unfortunately, a non runner as the capacitor in the SU electric fuel pump had burned out. With that replaced it would then run but lumpily and driving it was almost impossible. The float valve works fine and shuts off the flow from th...

Re: BSA Top Gear Noise
It is definitely a noise from within the gearbox. I suspect that it might have been towed, at some point, by a previous owner. The last owner definitely had issues with the engine reliability and I wonder if it was towed anywhere? Just guessing. Most people tell me these boxes are very tough, unless...

Re: BSA Top Gear Noise
The gear change pedal returns to a different height for each gear when you select it. Is it possible it or the linkage is catching somewhere and vibrating against the floor, the speedo cable, the exhaust, etc when in top? Does it do it when stopped in top? Hello, again. It doesn't make any noise in...

Re: BSA Top Gear Noise
The gear change pedal returns to it’s lowest point when top is selected. Could it be a weak return spring which works ok when returning the pedal to higher positions but just fails in the lowest position? Is the pedal bush well lubricated? Maybe the Length of the rod needs slight adjustment. It SOU...

Re: BSA Top Gear Noise
Hello, Migray. Oddly enough, lying in bed last night, I wondered that myself. I haven't stayed in top when coming to rest, so I haven't noticed. That was to be my next "test". Drive It Day today, so I'll have another go and listen some more. Keep the thoughts coming, I appreciate all the i...

Re: BSA Top Gear Noise
Hi, Ranald. (Was that the name of a welsh king?) Anyway, No, it is only top gear. The noise stops if I press the gear change pedal, even if I haven't selected another gear. It is either my imagination or it is becoming less.(am I simply getting used to it?) Maybe it is something that has got rusty o...

Re: BSA Top Gear Noise
Colin, Any comment is better than being ignored. Even advice like "shove an old pair of tights into it" is better than nothing. I don't have to do it but it's food for thought. Any shot in the dark might lead to the light. I suspect, although I didn't want a "project", the gearbo...

Re: BSA Top Gear Noise
Thank-you, Brian. These manuals will be extremely useful. I don't imagine the BSA box being vastly different in principle. I don't really understand why the intermediate speeds should be so quiet and suddenly, when they are all rotating together there is a loud "argument". Does not seem to...
