Re: Jumping out of 2nd

Many thanks for all the helpful replies. We had some glorious weather down here in Cornwall this afternoon so had an afternoon tootling around the lanes clocking up about 60 miles. I had screwed the detents down as far as I dared, 1/4 turn at a time until the ball would not get out of the way of the...

Jumping out of 2nd

My Dart jumps out of 2nd occasionally, usually on the overrun. I have taken the top off the box and tried to set up the selector rod detent springs as described in the workshop manual but can't get anywhere near the loads quoted. My box had no shims between the plugs and the springs but the plugs we...

Re: SP 250 clutch judder when reversing.

Just to confirm the terminology - clutch released = pedal pressed to the floor. Mine started to squeal when the clutch was released for more than a few seconds and after changing a perfectly good release bearing I came to the conclusion that it must have been a dry bush in the end of the crankshaft ...

Re: Hood erection.

I have a home made gadget that makes fitting and removing the tenax fasteners a doddle especially when the hood or tonneau are in tension.

150mm of 25 X 3mm aluminium bar

9mm hole near one end opened up to a slot

round off corners and edges

polish to match your rocker covers.

Re: Chassis number and the MOT test

I fitted a lubrication plate duly stamped, always take the V5 along as well.

There is one on ebay at the moment listed as a 'Daimler Chassis Plate' and a much more expensive one for a Majestic Major that looks as if it would be OK if you have an automatic.

Re: SP250 Hazard Warning Light Retrofit

I have just done mine using a Durite 0-484-50 switch. To avoid having a non period switch on the dashboard I mounted it on a bracket on the back of the dash so I have a button under the dash just to the right of the rev counter. There is a wiring diagram here: http://www.autoelectricsupplies.co.uk/f...

Re: V8 Saloon the gremlins return - twofold!

Had similar symptoms with my Dart. The recently fitted new condenser had a bolted connection for the wire that was a bit too close to the baseplate in the distributor giving an intermittent short with vibration. It must have caused a heavy current to flow through the right hand points as the plastic...
