Re: SP250 Holley Carburettor

I have fitted a Weber 38 DGES to my saloon because I could. This is the same carb as Jay used. I have a friend who did all the machining required for free so the whole process cost the price of a new carb. Is it better than SUs? The performance is similar on the open road but the SU gives slightly b...

Re: Daimler V8 250 Gearstick Gaiter rubber

I have fitted an alternative boot to my car. This is one used on the Jag Mk2. P1030490.jpg I made up an alloy plate that was fitted behind the fiberglass top of the transmission tunnel as seen in this photo DSCN0928.JPG The plate was thick enough to tap a thread into and followed the appiture of the...

Re: 2.5 V8 restoration

I do not think the number of V8 MOD of the pre V8 250 would number more than 10 imported to NZ. I know of or seen 6 cars one of them being mine (1A13008DN Golden Sand /red) . There are more Daimlers than Jag Mk2 here due to the fact that a Daimler could be bought off the floor in the 1960s while a J...

Re: Drive line vibration on V8 manual od

There is no difference in the vibration whether in 4th or o/d. The problem is dependant on road speed. Jt is not a new problem but has been present as long as I have owned the car ie 13years and 60k miles. During the initial rebuild the propshaft was fitted 180 degress out and the vibration was wors...

Re: Drive line vibration on V8 manual od

Thank you for your useful replies. I have in my original hand book a table of road speed v/s rpm in all 4 gears and also with o/d engaged. We are about to move house so I can not put my hand on it but from memory 6o mph equates to 2800 rpm in o/d. The only part of the drive train that has not been r...

Re: Drive line vibration on V8 manual od

Chris, thank you for your reply. The vibration was the reason I had the propshaft remade with new yokes and universals. The whole lot was rebalanced but unfortunately there was very little improvement. My diff is original and I think my speedo is reading a little fast and the needle does swing arrou...

Drive line vibration on V8 manual od

Greetings, I have owned two 1967 2.5 V8 manual saloons both with manual boxes with od. I have found that both cars had a vibration period starting at about 2900 rpm in overdrive which equates to about 68 mph. With my present car the same vibration or resonance is present at the same road speed (68mp...

Re: Wiring electric fan.

Hi Steve, I have the same situation on my V8 saloon but I do not consider it to be a problem. My understanding is that this is caused by "heat soak" when the hot coolent rises to the top of the radiator turning on the fan. via the thermoswitch. An electric water pump setup with the electri...

Re: Daimler 250 V8 Saloon cylinder heads

The NZ Spare Parts Club daimjagspares@xtra.co.nz has developed new heads and are currently using a pair on their club vehicle. I have seen the heads and also some of the machining errors while developing them. The quality looks good but there has been some problems to solve. They will of course not ...

Re: SP250: points versus electronic ignition

I like Kevin run a pertronix which was fitted 12 years and 50k miles ago without any problems . Set and forget! Obviously from the posts on this forum people have had problems with both systems. Spares for the standard system will only get harder to source and the quality maybe poor. Let us not forg...
