Re: Lovely Lanchesters

Christopher/Ranald. I am fairly certain the glass bottle is/was part of the automatic lubrication system, which is activated from the inlet manifold, there should be brake pipe type tubing running from the bottom of it to feed oil to the spring hangers/shackles etc. My Daimler 15 has a similar but l...

Re: V8 Saloon - too loud

Howard, I have almost the same set up as yours, though mine is a V8 250 manual overdrive. My engine was rebuilt by Russ Carpenter and a new stainless exhaust fitted about 12 years ago, before I bought the car. I had quite a lot of noise coming in when I bought the car, I found it was coming through ...

Re: What is this?

Looks like something similar on the right hand side on the flat surface under the wall display.

Wonderful link John.

Re: What is this?

I love this type of posting and at first thought this was a very old parallel rule for navigation, but on searching the net there is nothing like it for that purpose.

I recon it is as has been suggested an engineers instrument of some sort.

Re: Castor angle setting

Hope this is not wrong but are we getting mixed up between caster and camber here. As I recall caster is the angle of the front suspension top ball joint to lower ball joint relative to vertical and camber is the angle of the wheel relative to the road surface. Camber on an SP is adjusted by shims u...

Re: Body Removal

John. Some years ago I tackled an Austin 18 York, it had a similar but smaller body than the DE36, but the principle is the same. In my case I did take off the doors and everything else I could to cut down the lifted weight. The body had rotten ash every where and where it was not rotten, it had woo...

Re: SP250 with retractable roof

Interesting video John, a very clever bit of engineering, must have taken many moons to design and manufacture. To get it to work as well as it does was a great achievement on some ones part, but to what end. No one could call an SP250 elegant, some think it ugly, many think it an interesting, attra...

Re: DB18 Ignition Switch

Morning Trevor. That sounds correct though I should say I don't have a wring diagram for a DB18 and can't confirm your letters. The feed through the switch should be provided by 12 volts at terminal "A" and as you say when the key is turned the 12 volts should appear at terminal "ign" and from there...

Re: Clutch fluid V8 250 manual

Just as a matter of interest, the new slave cylinder arrived today from SNG Barratt and in very small lettering on the box it says, "not suitable for use with mineral fluids"

Re: Another Daimler ? No sh.t Sherlock !

Chris, as you say the XJ series was a big departure from what has been a series of adjustments to the very popular original MK1 design concept in more ways than just body styling. I still think Jaguar missed a trick when they abandoned the Turner design, it was abandoned before it had been given a c...
