Re: Insurance Company Tactics

For a short while I was a Director of a small specialist electrical appliance insurance company and it was an eye opener. The success, because there was no chance of failure, was to reserve forward each year for the coming year based on the past year and to increase premiums to ensure a set profit l...

Re: Contact point sets problem

Julian, not really thought this through but from what I recall there are two sets of contacts in the V8 distributor in order to increase the dwell angle of the ignition. As the cams on the centre spindle rotate it sets both contact sets in the closed position to make the circuit, when one set opens ...

Re: Insurance Company Tactics

Are we talking modern of classic Stan? Insurance companies are on a cost cutting mission and they don't do anything that costs money if they think ultimately they will be paying out on a write off. What you can be sure of, as I am sure you will know, is that they will make a silly offer in the first...

Delicious and will make a superb car without huge effort or cost, seems to be very cheap if it goes for the current bid. Syd

Re: Daimler 2.5 V8 Battery/Dynamo issues

Just to clarify how a dynamo works in our cars. The output from a dynamo in good condition will be more than 12 volts and is dependant on how fast the dynamo is turned by the engine, left to its self and run at speeds above idle for long periods, the output from a good dynamo will over charge and da...

Re: Horrible Scraping Sound

I know it's a bit naff but they can and have in the past been glued back together as a temporary measure, but will not work as a damper and because the purpose of them is to finely balance the crank, it could damage the engine. It is a very specialised job to balance them properly, hence the exchang...

Re: Disposal of waste coolant, oil or petrol

You have started something here John, personally I would not have even thought of tipping old oil, brake fluid, petrol, thinners, paint etc into my garden for fear of contaminating the ground and killing hedges plants and insects. The council recycling centre here has a facility for them, it's free to ...
