Re: Italian Road Trip

Sorry John can't understand your response. Rereading the post, Kevin asked for help with planning the trip, we have to assume he has already done the planning for spares insurance etc and has the information you suggest or he would have included it in the request. All you who have done it all !! If ...

Re: Italian Road Trip

The car museum in Mullhouse on the French-Swiss-Belgian border, has to be on the list and of course the Alps, tunnels are fine fantastic in a SP, though the noise does become intrusive after a time, but the mountain roads are are really well worth the trouble. I have done the trip from Southampton t...

Re: Re building an engine

Chris, don't get too carried away with that oil pressure. My SP has about 20lb when hot, the engine is high mileage and is much noisier than a modern engine or my V8 250 under the bonnet, I can't tell if any of the noises are bottom end but as long as the oil pressure holds around 20llb when hot, I ...

Re: Whats an original number worth

Well Steve, thanks for your input, as it happens No 2 son came over last night (also a Steve) and made the same suggestion and sure enough the number was there, rang them this morning and they are looking for £4,500.

This is starting to smell a bit so I shan't be investing, I am out. Syd

Re: Whats an original number worth

I have to admit to posting this as a bit of a teaser, the car in question was advertised for many months and just did not sell, it was listed on Fleabay and in Auto Trader. Out of interest one morning I rang the vendor and agreed to take the 300 mile round trip to look at the prospects. Restoration ...

Re: Just bought.......

Unless by chance you have such a thing in hand I should have made the point that a usable V8 engine and gearbox, in particular one with a manual gearbox, will be expensive. Typically I would think a couple of thousand pounds minimum. If you buy one that needs work, hold on to your wallet, it could c...

Re: Just bought.......

Sadly I have never driven a conquest, but in their day they could keep up with a 2.4 Jaguar and rally versions often out shone their class competitors. I agree the Ford engine grates a bit but it is a sound unit and cheap to keep up. In you position before I did anything else I would try to find som...

Whats an original number worth

I have owned a 1937 15 for several years that has an age related number. I have been contacted by the chap I bought the car from back then who has offered me the original two letter four number plate that was originally on the car. My dilemma is to decide if the number is worth the several thousand ...

Re: SP New wiring loom problems

Thanks Denis, the diagram shows the large number of connections that need to find their way to earth for the different units on the car. As I said earlier, on a metal body car that is very simple jusst bolt it onto the body or chassis, on a "plastic" car body alternative arrangements have been made ...
