Conquest Drophead SU H6 Striker Pin

I have been rebuilding the twin SU H6 carburettors on my 1954 Daimler Conquest Drophead. On the base of both carburettor pistons is a brass 'striking pin' which is sprung and stops the piston completely closing the throttle aperture. It also cushions the piston as it drops. Mine look to be leaving q...

Re: Conquest Drophead steering pin bushes

Thanks Chris,
I'm in Northern Ireland where any Daimler is rare and my Drophead, positively unknown!

Conquest Drophead steering pin bushes

Good evening! I have been doing my usual round of Conquest maintenance and was checking the front suspension. I have noticed a little vertical movement (maybe 20 thou) in the swivel pins on both sides. On one side there is also a little movement from the top to the bottom of the wheel, which I presu...

Re: Conquest Drophead tickover

Gents,
Thanks for your ideas.
I will check compressions although that seems unlikely as the engine is running so well otherwise.
I have checked most ignition components and all seem okay so I will try the timing suggestion.

Thanks again
David

Conquest Drophead tickover

I have a Conquest Drophead with the standard Century engine and SU H6 carbs. I recently rebuilt these with new gaskets due to slight leaks. They were in generally good condition otherwise. I previously had, and am still having, difficulty getting a reliable slow tickover (i.e. 400 rpm as the manual ...

1953 Daimler Conquest Drophead brake linings

Hi,
I have just ordered a set of old stock rear brake linings for my Conquest Drophead. These don't come with rivets and I wonder if anyone can advise on the correct type?

Re: Daimler Conquest Drophead steering box

Thanks for your advice all. I will have to investigate further to see what is actually wrong. I think the leak is coming down the rocker shaft. It is losing quite a lot of oil and I am surprised this has started suddenly after never leaking before. I may well ask fir more advice as I find out more! ...

Daimler Conquest Drophead steering box

Hi,
Has anyone had any problems with the Conquest steering box. My steering has always had around 3" of travel at the wheel, but now I notice the steering box is leaking through the bottom shaft.
I can't find anything on the forum.
Any ideas?
regards
David

Re: Conquest Century core plugs

Thanks everyone for your advice. I did not want to disturb the cylinder head as the car has been running very well apart from getting hot in traffic. I was able to replace the offending core plug using a mirror and feel, as it was out of sight even with the carbs off. On a quick test run, everything...
