Re: SP gearbox removal

In my experience taking the down pipe of and the starter are the easiest way round things. Check the pointed tip bolt with the square head while on the clutch lever shaft While the box is out. It’s not entirely necessary to take the driver seat out but if you are portly or of limited agility then it...

Re: SP New wiring loom problems

Zbigmak, I hope Syd will confirm, but I don’t think there is a common earth point at the rear. As far as I remember, the loom carries earth wires as well as supply wires. I think that is why when I swapped them around the different components, as mentioned in my previous post, it cured my problems.

Re: Saloon viscous coupling

The only thing to be aware of with the longer unit is clearance to the radiator if your engine mounts are not up to scratch. If they are as soft as bogies then under sharp breaking the engine will tilt forward and cause contact between the fan blades and radiator.

Re: Italian Road Trip

I got the impression John that the main question was about routes. That said however, I would only carry ignition bits and bobs, and bulbs. The car should be in tip top condition anyway before such a journey is considered. No alterations should be needed as things like lighting is not really bright ...

Re: Italian Road Trip

Personal choice considering I live in Leeds. I like to do the overnight ferry from Hull to Rotterdam. Then generally follow the Rhine to Switzerland and or Lichtenstein and into Italy. The Stelvio Pass and Mont Blanc tunnel are nice to tick off the “been there done that” list. If you go the French w...

Re: Just bought.......

Fitting a V8 250 with auto box could work out expensive. The cooling system would have to be in tip top condition and the engine it’s self in reasonable order. If not overheating and related fuel and oil consumption would be a cause for concern. I can understand the authenticity aspect but if the un...

Re: SP New wiring loom problems

I had problems at the rear end when I fitted a new Autosparks loom. In my case I found that swapping the positive black cables in the boot area work to cure the issues. I don’t understand the black art of electrics but it seamed as though the fuel gauge, pump and reserve solenoid mattered as to whic...

Re: Dart spitting out dirt from exhaust

I’m glad your not my neighbour, I wouldn’t appreciate you revving up early on a Sunday morning. That said I wouldn’t be worried about the crud. Infrequent running and relatively low mileage tends to cause that sort of thing to happen. Heating up and cooling down causes the debris to stick then loose...

Re: On Top

I think PVC is more susceptible to shrinkage and stiffening due to winter temperatures, which can be a torment trying to erect a cold hood on a cold day. Double Duck is very good with wet conditions and Mohair has a curtain air of quality. I chose Double Duck and was happy with it’s all round effici...
