Re: Chassis No. 100164

The tachometer Drive from the SP are very difficult to find and that is why some have the V8 electric base fitted.
It’s the sort of part that people hesitate to let go if they do have a spare and only let them go for a small ransom.

I can never understand why such a lovely looking car has dirty tyres ! Surely cleaning them would add another Grand to the value.

Re: Chassis No. 100164

Don’t know about the speedo but the tachometer is electric on the V8 250 and mechanical on the SP. It may be that the distributor drive has been swapped, or even the whole engine.

Re: special sport carbs

If you can get a hold of the SU tuning manual all well and good. That said try the web site of Burlen, the technical pages are very good for information regarding setting up the carbs.

Re: special sport carbs

You will find it much easier to get a hold of a carburettor balancer. They can be bought cheaply from car accessories shops. I have a Gunsun one which works well with SU carbs.

Surely the decimal point is in the wrong place. They should be a £1000 a pop.

Re: Special Sports water in the oil ! Again...

Was the oil changed when the last work was carried out? If not could water have been spilt into the oil when the head was removed. Although the purists will cringe, rather than another strip down, can you try a product like “K Seal” ultimate cylinder head repair along with an oil change ? If it has ...

Re: V8 Saloon Poly or metalastic bushes?

I think different suppliers have different ideas or maybe different ideas for different applications.
I have seen sets supplied with little red grease envelopes but can’t remember where the grease was for.

Really pleased you have got to the bottom of it. An SP that can’t be enjoyed is a true travesty of justice.

Re: Dart rear axle oil seal

I would guess that the seal material would determine how tight it can be. If it is soft and flexible then I don’t think it would be a problem as the oil should be able to lubricate the contact area as the shaft rotates. That said it doesn’t want to be like a bag of bogeys allowing oil to seep through.
