Re: Dart spitting out dirt from exhaust

I’m glad your not my neighbour, I wouldn’t appreciate you revving up early on a Sunday morning. That said I wouldn’t be worried about the crud. Infrequent running and relatively low mileage tends to cause that sort of thing to happen. Heating up and cooling down causes the debris to stick then loose...

Re: On Top

I think PVC is more susceptible to shrinkage and stiffening due to winter temperatures, which can be a torment trying to erect a cold hood on a cold day. Double Duck is very good with wet conditions and Mohair has a curtain air of quality. I chose Double Duck and was happy with it’s all round effici...

Re: SP250: points versus electronic ignition

I tried two different types of electronic ignition systems in my Darts and was disappointed with both. I can’t recall which I tried but they weren’t the cheapest available. I also fitted electric power steering and found that the electronic control units packed up after short periods . I concluded t...

Re: Brake Drums

Are the shoes concentric? I don’t know yours specifically but as you put the drums on try hitting the drum up, down and side to side in order to position the shoes central to the drum.

Re: handbrake lever won't release

It may not be worth modifying the mechanism but have you checked the hand brake pads ? Which are separate items from the foot brake pads. The other thing to check is the mechanism rods mounted on the back axle.

Re: V8-250 Saloon: Spark Plug Tubes - Thread Size

The suggested removal techniques are fine until someone has fitted some kind of thread lock in an attempt to seal the tubes. If that is the case then follow previous posts but add localised heat to melt the chemical locking agent.

Re: fan belt tension

Older cars don’t like too much tension. Unless the water pump etc have been adapted to modern bearings, then I would only tension them to a half inch and no more. That said if you do have to tension them more to get drive then the actual pulleys may be worn.

Re: Engine woes. ! !

Al and John, Forgive me for talking un-Daimler/Lanchester/BSA but I have recently bought an Austin Champ that stood for twelve years. Needless to say I have gone through a process of changing all things rubber. It is still pissing oil from the back crank seal which is a scroll type. I am going to ad...

Re: Chassis No. 100164

The tachometer Drive from the SP are very difficult to find and that is why some have the V8 electric base fitted.
It’s the sort of part that people hesitate to let go if they do have a spare and only let them go for a small ransom.

I can never understand why such a lovely looking car has dirty tyres ! Surely cleaning them would add another Grand to the value.
