Thanks for the suggestions, I have now been able to remove and it is still useable!
Similar to sump plug Marcel but 5/8th" head the sump one is 7/16".

Thanks for that Colin, I thought that I was going to have to be brutal with it as it would not move. The brass head of the nut was rather worn and my socket kept slipping off, however success tonight. After wedging socket against axle stand with a wood block to keep it on the nut then using a clamp ...

Windscreen Screws

Looking for very small countersunk machine screws for windscreen, only four threads long that fit into windscreen
frame channel. Any help appreciated, I have seen for American cars but maybe thread form could be wrong!

Go 40 grit with good quality discs then you will make progress, be careful with air driven sander, too fast speed will make too much heat which is not good. Electric sander not too fast is what I used, EL24 back to bare metal.

Thank you for this Mark very helpful, the thermostat housing does fit over the four bolts and I have made
new cork gasket so good flush fit should be just fine.
