Re: DE27 rear brakes

Hi Paul, I'm in Boise, Idaho, so we're practically neighbors. I have two early '50s Daimler Hooper Empresses, both very original, running, driving, and presentable. (And for sale.) They both have the hybrid brake setup. I had to have the sliding master cylinder rebuilt on the DF302. My experience is...

ROYAL DAIMLER FAILURE?

I am the proud owner of two Empresses (DB18 and DF302) and have become interested in Daimler history, especially the 1950s, when Daimler lost Royal patronage to R-R. I distinctly recall reading or hearing about an incident involving one of the Royal Daimlers "failed to proceed" at a critic...

Re: Removing a Conquest sediment bowl safely

Well, to remove the bowl, you have to turn the nut/knob at the bottom. Your problem is access. So try to improve that, if you can. Otherwise, maybe some kind of super-long pliers might help. Good penetrating oil and time are your friends. Keep after it, and you'll get it off before too long! Bob Fri...

Re: Condolence

Very interesting photo. 1956 looks about right, judging from Charles and Anne's ages. The car has to be her Hooper-bodied Empress II (3-litre "Regency" chassis #80002). I have one just like it (#82004). Her car apparently left the Hooper factory in July, 1952, so she probably received it b...

Re: window mechanism by Piper

Haven't been following the forum regularly lately. Did you get this resolved? I think the piece you want is the sheet steel piece that screws to the channel piece at the bottom of the glass. It has an oddly-shaped hole which engages the small brass wheel (grooved edge) which is attached to the drive...

Re: DB18/2 low compression

Chiming in a bit late here, but I fully agree with Stan Thomas. I'll bet "dollars to doughnuts" that you have a blown head gasket, and these two cylinders are just trading air. That's the way it was for me on my DB18 Empress, which had those exact symptoms. The fix is straightforward, just...

Re: US Trucking Company

Hi John, Where in California is the car? If you want to get it to Washington state, it might be easiest just to drive it. Two days, maybe three max. On the other hand if it's Washington DC we are talking SEVERAL days of driving. I am in Idaho, just a bit inland from the west coast. I don't have any ...

Re: DB18 Torque Values

I have a couple of manuals for Daimlers of the era, and neither shows the wheel bolt torque. But the best sources for such info are the various charts of fastener info, available on the web (via Google) or in general engineering manuals. You'll need the diameter and pitch of the wheel stud. If you d...

Re: Daimler Empress

Hi Marcus, I wonder if your car might be the one I looked at in the SE Bay area (Fremont, maybe??) in 2013. I see that car you're looking at came from California. I wonder if IT could it be the one I looked at. Not a lot of these around! I ended up buying a 3-litre Empress II in pretty decent shape....

Re: Chassis Lubrication Daimler Conquest

Hello Norman (?), Can't speak for others, but I just use the thickest, stickiest oil I can get, which is either STP or a similar product called Motor Honey. I figure the thicker the better, just to minimize drippage. Another possibility might be very heavy (140 weight) gear oil. You would NOT want t...
