Re: Pre-Jaguar post-war Daimlers

Thanks for the sketches Mike which I hadn't seen before. The top one is stretched and exaggerated as was the fashion at the time but the bottom one looks like a Vauxhall Velox of the period. You can clearly see where the inspiration came from for the VW Karmann Ghia IMG_3991.JPG Karmann-Ghia-Prototy...

Re: Pre-Jaguar post-war Daimlers

Hello Geoff, thank you for your detailed response. I’d forgotten about David Adcock’s involvement and knew him briefly as a fellow enthusiast. I first came across the car before David and Marie owned it at a Daimler rally in Syon Park, 1972 or 73 when it was owned a very pleasant, fastidious man who...

Re: Pre-Jaguar post-war Daimlers

Thank you Mark! More contributors to dig out those old photos please. It would be nice to construct an informal history of Daimler from old and personal photographs. I have an obsession about dashboards. I'm sure everyone has seen the leather-clad (or is it Rexine?) dashboard of the Conquest Roadste...

Re: Pre-Jaguar post-war Daimlers

Neither the Conquest Century Roadster nor the subsequent Convertible ever really captured the market. This was probably due to the competitor Jaguar XK120 and its 160bhp versus the Daimler’s 100bhp 1.jpg 2.jpg In theory the power shouldn’t matter as the less powerful and similarly configured Lancia ...

Re: DE36 Allweather on Wedding Dutiy

How nice to see one actually being used on the road. It's such a rare occurrence here in Blighty.

Re: Pre-Jaguar post-war Daimlers

Good pictures Mark. It looks as if Appleyards has turned into a car wash and shopping warehouse. I wonder where the town planners where when that happened? More on coupes from me: I've posted this car before but not this view which gives a better idea of what the creator had to work with. IMG_4035.J...

Re: Pre-Jaguar post-war Daimlers

Thank you John for putting some of my collection of photos on display on the Forum header and I’m glad they are out there for others to enjoy. Regarding the discussion about cars and their ‘sameness’ isn’t that just the product of the time they were created? It seems to me that each era has its own ...

Re: Pre-Jaguar post-war Daimlers

4 I don’t quite know what to say about this. It would be nice if it had survived as a one-off but I’m not surprised there was no demand for it. How did Hooper go from the 2 door Empress to this? Does anyone have pictures of the interior? Only picture I could find certainly links the car to its SP25...

Re: Pre-Jaguar post-war Daimlers

Appleyard DB18 Special Sports. Interesting to think that when the picture was taken it was only 20 years old or so. Image (6).jpg Appleyard Barker FHC 1973.jpg Who or what was Appleyard Barker? The first photo is titled Appleyard DB18 and the second has a filename Appleyard Barker FHC 1973 (post Ja...
