Re: Seat piping

If you go the 'ready-made' route do make sure that the cord inside the leather is the right thickness. I've see cord in a reupholstered car seat which is too thin and looked ridiculous so get a sample. I needed some piping a while ago and had it made up by a saddler with a beefy sewing machine to de...

Re: Hooper Daimlers

No need to apologise about the lengthy post Geoff, it was fascinating and you've set off other trains of thought. All noted about the V8s but I don't think Century's ever achieved a value that made the conversion worthwhile. Would a pre-selector gearbox stand the extra power? Would a majestic engine...

Re: Hooper Daimlers

Answering my own question the Lanchester Dauphin was £4000 in 1953. (In 1954 my Father sold our suburban house in Ruislip (then in Middlesex) for £2400.) The info came from this fascinating article https://drive-my.com/en/test-drive/item/2770-hooper-bodied-1954-daimler-dauphin.html I reproduce some ...

Re: Hooper Daimlers

Thanks Geoff. A veritable phalanx of photos and much appreciated. The dash is very impressive especially with the centre section which houses the gauges being slightly tilted upwards which makes them more legible. (A similar thing was done on the MK II Century I once owned.) Also thanks to John B fo...

Re: Hooper Daimlers

Excellent car Geoff. Such an elegant model. As you will have see from an earlier posting in this thread I almost bought one about 8 years ago IMG_3925.JPG Notice the shorter bonnet compared to the earlier DB18 000_25871[1].jpg When I went to view the first car it was stored in a garage in a field op...

Re: special sport front brakes

I had the same thing on an SS. After a lot of heartache (much of which you've already been through!) I found that one of the internal surfaces of the drums, although not scored or marked, was less worn on the outer edge and therefore engaging only on the outer edge of its brake linings. All was well...

Re: Hooper Daimlers

Knowing my penchant for anything Daimler and particularly Hooper Daimler, a friend has spotted this and sent me pictures taken in a garage somewhere in South London. c5bbd5f3-d012-4078-b273-56dc1fe554ee.JPG ed9d75ce-2597-4d27-bc2c-c80497b9d8f6.JPG How nice to see a four-door DJ260 with a Hooper body...

Re: Thailand King's Daimler

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V3zgPhUHi0M I don't think I've ever seen such good pictures of a DE36. Possibly the best condition extant? Fascinating to see the car in action and a few glimpses of the interior. Also fascinating to see the Thai way of life including the 'no-slamming-shut-of-the-door...

Re: Freestone & Webb DE36 Whereabouts

img001.jpg
Whilst having a tidy-up I came across this black and white photograph.
On the back is stamped Freestone & Webb LTD Feb 49
It appears it was taken at the same location as the picture I posted on 19th March and that the driver is the same.
