Re: Interesting V8 Saloon - post edited

I rather thought that Daimler had approached Vauxhall with a view to using the body of the PB Cresta/Velox for a V8 saloon, but that in the end nothing came of it because Jaguar leapt in Although never built by Daimler here's the heroic story of someone who did http://www.daimler-dn250.net/index.ht...

Re: Interesting V8 Saloon - post edited

Please see ebay item 264457742760 This car was obviously at a prototype stage when Jaguar took over. It is reminiscent of the Standard Vanguard Vignale and think I did read somewhere a few years ago that Daimler had explored a possible liason with Standard. However I did not realise this had gone a...

Re: Sherborne School Rally 2019

I agree about the Lancia - a beautiful car. It was first registered 1st Jan 62. If only Daimler had had the imagination to fit the SP250 with a smart Italian suit I wonder where the marque would be today. The nearest it got was that awful Hooper body. In 1965 Jensen went shopping in Italy and came b...

Daimlers on TV and Film

Tonight on TV Channel 4: ‘Princess Margaret: The Royal Rebel. Lots of Daimler shots. All very good quality with no fuzziness. DB18 drophead, DE36 convertible, several Double Six state cars, a Majestic Major Limousine, a few Rolls Royces plus Vauxhall and others too. I’m sorry I can’t post a link but...

Re: Seat piping

If you go the 'ready-made' route do make sure that the cord inside the leather is the right thickness. I've see cord in a reupholstered car seat which is too thin and looked ridiculous so get a sample. I needed some piping a while ago and had it made up by a saddler with a beefy sewing machine to de...

Re: Hooper Daimlers

No need to apologise about the lengthy post Geoff, it was fascinating and you've set off other trains of thought. All noted about the V8s but I don't think Century's ever achieved a value that made the conversion worthwhile. Would a pre-selector gearbox stand the extra power? Would a majestic engine...

Re: Hooper Daimlers

Answering my own question the Lanchester Dauphin was £4000 in 1953. (In 1954 my Father sold our suburban house in Ruislip (then in Middlesex) for £2400.) The info came from this fascinating article https://drive-my.com/en/test-drive/item/2770-hooper-bodied-1954-daimler-dauphin.html I reproduce some ...
