New flasher unit arrived yesterday less than 24 hours from ordering. Now installed and indicators now flashing. Interesting can only just hear ticking with centre instrument panel down but inaudible with panel up

Re: Electrical puzzle on V8 saloon

ps - if you wanted to, when you get the new unit, you could connect the red wire to L and the LGP wire to P, to match the wiring diagram. J Yes John most definitely will. Have ordered flasher on ebay as object to paying exorbitant postal charges now being added by most auto spares suppliers Many th...

Re: Electrical puzzle on V8 saloon

Hello John M Many thanks for your interest. Yes my mistake on the labelling of the Flasher unit and agree that there would be no point in changing the connections. The connections had always been this way in my 10 years posession as I have never done any rewiring of the indicator leads. The only rew...

Re: Electrical puzzle on V8 saloon

Well this morning I checked the continuity from the remaining tail of the light green/ brown (LGN) wire to its termination on the switch and was all OK. Reconnected the tail to the (replacement!) red line to the flasher unit and again checked continuity all the way to the swich and again OK. I then ...

Re: Electrical puzzle on V8 saloon

Hi Richard I am also working from a Jag Mk2 wiring diagram but it does seem to be identical in respect of the indicators. The warning lights are clearly shown to be fully independent of the feed to the bulbs and fed via a Light Gren/Purple lead. This is connected to the same terminal on my flasher a...

Re: Electrical puzzle on V8 saloon

Hi Richard Many thanks again for comments. I must say i am assuming the flasher unit is a modern one as it is bright and shiny and does not and never has "Ticked". It does howver have 3 connections but only 2 of which are in use. One with the 12V feed and contrary to the circuit diagram th...

Re: Electrical puzzle on V8 saloon

OK an update certainly one step forward but...! Dropped centre instrument and switch panel. Located flasher unit which appears to be modern solid state type with only 2 terminals of 3 connected. However found both leads detatched from female spade plug on one terminal and one green lead detatched on...

The indicator flasher unit is right at the back on the bulkhead, if you drop the centre instrument panel you will see it at the back tucked slightly upwards.

Re: Electrical puzzle on V8 saloon

I don't have a circuit diagram to hand but the indicators and the brake lights light independently to each other so the only common factor is their earth. The side lights I guess also use this earth (at least at the rear) so are they working? If they don't work either it's pretty certain to be the ...

Electrical puzzle on V8 saloon

Hello Unfortunately due to age and arthritis I am contemplating selling my 1966 V8 Saloon. However before offering it for sale I need to fix an electrical problem. The brake lights and indicator lights have both stopped working. (Firstly please note this car was converted to negative earth by a prev...
