Aren’t the threads left hand and right hand? It’s pretty unlikely they’re Unified anyway.

Re: 1951 DB 18 SS steering column question
Don’t remove the chrome plated screw because it merely trips the self cancelling pawls -it doesn’t have anything to do with retaining the trafficator switch. There are 2 grub screws (4BA?) that can be found 180 degrees apart in the steering wheel yoke that retain the switch in the steering wheel. Yo...

DB18 steering box
I have a spare DB18 steering box that was originally fitted to the saloon car. Does anyone know whether it’s interchangeable with the SS DB18 box? As an educated guess I’d say it was, but I can’t be certain.

Re: Special Sports Tools
David, I stand to be corrected here, but I’m pretty sure there were no markings on the spanners. They look like they were stamped out of a steel sheet and were pretty basic affairs.

Re: 1951 DB 18 SS gearbox won't turn
The damaged annulus is that of overdrive and although the damage was possibly caused by using the engagement pedal as a clutch, it’s highly unlikely! Running gear parts for the O/D gearbox are pretty difficult to source and they’re almost entirely different from the non O/D ‘box.

Re: Stupid question
Several years ago I bought what I thought was a complete DB18 dash for a not-exactly-heart-stopping $20, but when I got it home I found the oil and ignition warning lights were both red. It seems, then, that there are Lanchesters that used red warning lights for both for some arcane reason. The beze...

Re: Stupid question
It’s true these lights have a resistance wire that’s wrapped around the plastic bulb holder, so if a 12 volt bulb is fitted it’ll be dim because the bulb’s voltage should be 2.5 if memory serves. However, if you have a little electric nous it’s not difficult to bypass the resistance so a 12 volt bul...

Re: Stupid question
The lenses are made of plastic and over the years they deteriorate and there’s not much you can do with them. They each house a small transparent disc with IGN and OIL printed on them. I got round the problem by cannibalising an ancient acetylene motorcycle lamp which had similar lenses and superglu...
