Re: Db18 special sports

Hi Marcus, I don't have any such spares, and i don't believe that the NSW Club has any either. We do have quite a few smaller items, but the cost of shipping may be prohibitive. One Victorian estate recently sold two cars advertised as being able to be made into one and the buyer then on sold the sp...

Re: The preselector (Wilson) gearbox

Hi Stefan, i think Pete Lang's response is correct. As long as the revs are set correctly so that they are quite low at idle driving the car like an automatic is fine. You can pull away from a stop in top gear but it will be very slow. The car manuals all had a section on how to drive the cars. if y...

Re: The preselector (Wilson) gearbox

Hi Stefan, If you are driving a Daimler with pres elect transmission in traffic and must come to a sudden stop you just press firmly on the brake pedal and the car will stop. If you are still in gear and release the brake the car will start to move forwards. While the manual tells you that it is fin...

Re: The preselector (Wilson) gerabox

Dear Stefan-Daniel, I have owned a number of Daimlers with the pre-select gearbox and fluid flywheel and can honestly say that they are very easy and good to drive in the modern traffic. Of course, being older cars and quite heavy they are not as light to steer or easy to stop as a modern car but as...

Re: Just bought.......

Don’t forget that the Daimler factory fitted a Century Auto with a V8 engine as a test bed for the V8. John Box wrote about it in an article that appeared in your UK magazine some years ago. He said that the car startled other road users as the rather upright dated saloon steadily gained on then ove...

Re: One week of ownership

Hi Everyone, I have been away (still in Ireland) so only looked at the forum this evening. The new drop arm is shorter and engineered to theoretically require more turns lock to lock but easier. The new brake booster has been fitted along with some BMW thingyamyjig and apparel toy the brakes are abs...

Re: 1951 Daimler special sport drophead

I wonder if the timber door cappings are underneath that padded vinyl section on top of the doors. When the decorative timber isn't there it makes me realise how important it is to the intrinsic look and feel of the car. Also, and it is not for me to speak, owning an all yellow Special Sports, but w...

Re: One week of ownership

Hi Graham, Sorry I was typing on my ipad at home and the screen is cracked: that should be "gunk" not "hunk"! The steering arm from Marles duly arrived and has been fitted. The new owner is also fitting a brake booster and in addition some gizmo from a BMW that assists the booster to even greater he...

Re: One week of ownership

Graham, I am honoured that you thought I might be able to help! What I have found very good is steering box lube. This is a sticky hunk that, with patience and a cheap squeeze sauce bottle, can be pushed into the steering box and being so sticky won’t leak out. It is very important not to use grease...

Re: DB18 Saloon in Melbourne Australia

Hi Everyone, There are now many photos of the DB 18 on the auction site: https://www.shannons.com.au/auctions/2019-shannons-melbourne-spring-classic-auction/HU52D5TY1I198A6Z/ The story as I understand it is that the car was put away in the family garage in 1968 and the owner's son has recommissioned...
