Re: 1951 Daimler special sport drophead

I wonder if the timber door cappings are underneath that padded vinyl section on top of the doors. When the decorative timber isn't there it makes me realise how important it is to the intrinsic look and feel of the car. Also, and it is not for me to speak, owning an all yellow Special Sports, but w...

Re: One week of ownership

Hi Graham, Sorry I was typing on my ipad at home and the screen is cracked: that should be "gunk" not "hunk"! The steering arm from Marles duly arrived and has been fitted. The new owner is also fitting a brake booster and in addition some gizmo from a BMW that assists the booster to even greater he...

Re: One week of ownership

Graham, I am honoured that you thought I might be able to help! What I have found very good is steering box lube. This is a sticky hunk that, with patience and a cheap squeeze sauce bottle, can be pushed into the steering box and being so sticky won’t leak out. It is very important not to use grease...

Re: DB18 Saloon in Melbourne Australia

Hi Everyone, There are now many photos of the DB 18 on the auction site: https://www.shannons.com.au/auctions/2019-shannons-melbourne-spring-classic-auction/HU52D5TY1I198A6Z/ The story as I understand it is that the car was put away in the family garage in 1968 and the owner's son has recommissioned...

Re: DE36 Accelerator Pedal Stuck

Hi Everyone, The problem was that the bracket was fixed to the rod by a pin. With the help of a very clever neighbour we removed the bracket and discovered that the pin had sheared completely at both ends, thus allowing the bracket to revoke on the rod. The old pin was tapped out, and a new pin inse...

Re: DE36 Accelerator Pedal Stuck

Hi Everyone, The saga continues. I have been oiling the bracket , there are little oiling holes on each side and the carburettor linkages all work well. The pedal linkage still doesn’t operate the rod as it should to work the carburettor linkage but there is a little more movement. I will tap in the...

Re: DE36 Accelerator Pedal Stuck

Hi Everyone, Well I think the mystery is solved. Firstly the linkages were dry and I lubricated them all and everything is free and the spring from the carburettor linkages is now working well to return everything to its correct position. The problem is that the bush for the accelerator pedal,linkag...

Re: DE36 Accelerator Pedal Stuck

Hi and thanks for the replies. The return spring on the carburettor linkage is there and fine. The pedal has free range of movement there and back with no sticking or sign of something causing a lack of return . When I depress the pedal it just stays down. All,linkages lubricated and free. Is there ...

DE36 Accelerator Pedal Stuck

Hi Everyone, The accelerator pedal on my DE won’t come back up and if depressed remains pedal to the Wilton. I have cleaned away any possible old gummy rubber from the grommet, made sure the carpet isn’t fouling the pedal shaft and also oiled the connector points as per the owners manual. I am wonde...
