Re: SP 252

By coincidence, I came across an article in the Driving Member from 1968, which mentioned that the car had recently changed hands for £750 pounds. It’s a big IF, but should it make 6 figures, would have been a good investment In my view rarety and uniqueness is a desirable attribute, but that’s just...

Re: Registration number archives

Guys just a quick update. Thanks to Peters geneology detective work, I have had contact with Dereks son David. David inherited the car from his father in 1983, and sold it in 1991. Since Derek had the car before 1964 it was in the same family for maybe 30 years. I have promised to share history and ...

Re: Special Sports fuel issue

Michael, think Norfolk Lad makes a good point- it’s possible to position the fuel pump arm in such a position that the manual priming handle won’t work (the pump works off the camshaft). Before you give up on the mechanical pump, try pressing the starter solenoid to reposition the pump arm, and then...

Thorntons do a great job of helping classic car enthusiasts - I suggest giving them a call - John Chatfield is a Daimler friend - ask him about his

Re: Registration number archives

Hi Guys, Just to update you on my research (so far) I had arranged to go to see the Leeds Records yesterday, but had to cancel due to family matters. (hope to go next week) I left a message with Sheffield Archive about the 1964 registration, and am patiently waiting for a reply I have booked a searc...

Re: Registration number archives

Thanks Guys. I was basing the possible registration date on the fact that the car has body 023 - which would have been made early in the production run (but not necessarily registered) The Special Sports prototype JVC192 appeared at the Motor Show in 1948 - hence the target of 1949. I have been told...

Re: Registration number archives

Guys, many thanks for the replies. I am looking for reg OUA 3??. (I want to try to match our cars chassis number to a registration number - or prove that it is not a match. ) The registration is partially visible on Daimler’s publicity photos. My info is sketchy, but it is possible that our car was ...

Registration number archives

Hi, does anyone know about availability of historical records, useful websites etc ? We are looking for the history of our db18 ss. (No logbook, and a 1964 Essex number plate) The current target is 1949, Leeds (Appleyards who added the roof were in Leeds, Special Sports production started about that...

Re: Ravages of time

Mick, Just a thought (and remembering many years of fault finding in industry) - I wonder of its worth checking the pulley alignment ? The rational for this suggestion is that (presumably) the problem only manifested itself after the damper/pulley was changed. On that basis, might be worth checking ...
