Re: Upcoming UK auction

God loves a trier, they say. With a buyer's premium effectively of 24%, two trips necessary because you can't collect vehicles on the day of the auction, a £250 deposit before you can even bid, no documents or history available ( so how can you get them registered? ) and a company that does not seem...

Re: Re building an engine

These engines are not difficult to rebuild, but there are some points which have to be looked at which do not arise on every type of car 1. The bottom end is the Achilles' Heel of the engine. Because the engine is short, the main bearings are narrow, and wear quickly, and as already mentioned the ce...

Re: Majestic Major Transmission

I am afraid that Classiclife's post is wrong. Your query results from someone having conflated two Borg Warner transmissions - the DG which was used in many British cars from c.1954 to about 1964 , (thereafter being replaced by the BW35 in engines up to about 3 litres and the Model 8 in larger units...

Re: V8-250 Saloon: Hazard Warning Lights

The modern kit looks to be the easiest way. However, I am more than a little doubtful about a 30 amp fuse! At say 90 watts for all 4, I would have thought that a 15 amp fuse would be more than enough

Re: painting wire wheels

I had a set powder coated for one of my E types in silver some 20 years ago, and they still look like new. However, a word of warning : make sure that the wheels are properly trued up before you have them coated, as it may be impossible to turn the spokes afterwards

Re: Interesting V8 Saloon - post edited

It’s quite shameful really that before the Jaguar takeover Daimler were not seeking out body designs elsewhere, particularly Italy which was producing lots of really attractive bodies. Imagine what they could have produced with that lovely 2 ½ litre engine (or even the 4 ½! which surely would have ...

Re: A warning for all pre war owners.....

In my innocence I would have thought your car would be positive earth . Has yours been converted to negative earth ( or were these negative earth originally ) ? If not, your short is somewhere else, which is even more sinister

Re: SP250: points versus electronic ignition

I have had nothing but trouble with electronic ignition on my 5 classic cars and have gone back to points on all of them. I second the recommendation of the Distributor Doctor for parts and/or repairs

I realise time passes slowly in idyllic Cyprus, but I think you mean feet per second , Ian, and not feet per minute :D

Re: Speedometer calibration

Before you go to a lot of trouble and expense, check the speedo by motorway metre posts, rather than by satnav apps which may not always be accurate . At 60 mph true, = 96 kph , 2kms should take almost exactly 75 secs . If it is more than this, your speedo is overreading , and vice versa
