Re: How many left
One thing which I surmise you may not realise is that ALL manual 2.5 or 250 V8 cars had the Jaguar all synchro gearbox. The broad bumper cars with manual box were only about 10 to 20 in number ( I have one ) , the rest of the manual cars being V8 250s . Of the broad bumper cars, there appear to be a...

Yes, leave your expensive coolant out until the engine has been run up to temp with the second dose of citric acid, and left for 24 hours and then drained

Re: stat housing blocked almost solid with crystal like crud
Citric acid, available from pharmacies, is probably the best flushing agent . Dissolve about 300 grams in water, add it to the coolant, and afterrunning the engine leave for 24 hours, then flush and repeat

Re: Engine ‘lumpy’ when cruising above 1500rpm
Your mixture sounds to be weak to me. I would expect more like 4.5% at idle . I would check your float levels and then reset the mixture screws to give between 4 and 5% on each pipe. Note that each mixture screw will affect both exhaust pipes, each carb feeding 2 cylinders on each bank PS popping on...

Re: Carburettor fuel leaking
It may well be a stuck needle valve. I should undo the banjo , take the lid off the float chamber , and check the integrity of the float ( shake it to check for leaks ) and blow through the intake banjo area and check that the needle valves stops the airflow when you push it up

Re: Paint Colour chart V8 2.5
There were also all the Jaguar opalescent colours on the pre 250 cars , such as Silver Blue, Silver grey, Golden Sand , Dark green , Dark Blue ,
If you look on the JEC website you should find a complete colour chart

Re: What kind of fuel were they using??
As you say, there were different Final Drive ratios on Es. The early ones were 3.31 giving about 24 mph/1000 ( rather dependent on tyres : the 150mph road test ones used R5 racing tyres and went a little beyond 6000 rpm ) ; later European cars were 3.07 but US cars were 3.54 and would only do about ...

Re: What kind of fuel were they using??
No need for 3rd gear in an E type at 30 mph. It equates to about 1300rpm and the E pulls strongly even in top from about 700 rpm onwards !

Re: What kind of fuel were they using??
The SP figures closely correspond with those of the car tested by the Motor magazine on 15 June 1960 . It might interest readers to know that the 3.8 litre E type was even more extraordinary : conusumption was 25 mpg at 30mph , 27.5 mpg at 60 mph , and 21 mpg at 100mph

Re: Rear caliper advice
Wilkinson's have a good reputation, but you need to know who has manufactured these so that you can get spares later. Are they Zeus or Coopercraft, which are the two most usual aftermarket calipers ? Also, a further question worth asking is : is the pad area and/or piston area the same as the old cy...
