Re: LQ front axle removal.

I am following your posts with some interest, I will be removing the body from my LQ3 in due course before dismantling suspension. It all appears to be completely original at this stage, but my truck mechanic son can see some chassis familiarity with same.... All ball joints and king pins appear to ...

Daimler LQ3-20 info.

Greetings from New Zealand. I an completely restoring an LQ3 and seeking advise on a couple of fluids. Firstly, what grade of oil is suitable for the Luvax dampers? The front ones are devoid of oil, the rears still have clean green fluid which would appear to be about a 30 grade or greater. This wou...

Re: Daimler 'Twenty' front axle, knowledge please?

I am rebuilding an LQ3-20 but haven't got to the steering yet. But I suspect you might be better to remove the track rod ends rather than the arms. the steering arms are likely to be on a tapered keyed and/or splined shaft, will be the proverbial *#!**^! to remove. Good luck, I will be interested to...

Re: Conquest steering box leak and no first gear

Hi Douglas. The most common source of leak is the drop arm seal. Penrite steering box oil is the story, NEVER use grease. The suggestion to try manipulation of the gearshift is the way to go. Otherwise, take the top cover off the gearbox (easy job) and inspect while selecting gears (engine off or it...

Re: Hello from new owner

The battery cover is 1/2 inch plywood. The underside is scolloped out by 1/4 inch in the centre leaving a 1" border around the outside. The top has 2 scolloped out semicircles, 1/4", for the locking toggles. There is also a leather tab on the front to pull it out. Some new batteries are a problem, t...

Re: SP250: points versus electronic ignition

All my cars, 3 with V8's, Conquest & Consort, are converted to -ve earth (easy & reversable change). I use an ignition amplifier made up from a Jaycar kit, fitting a pull-up resistor to provide a cleaning current through the points. This is simple and reliable and very easy to revert to original as ...

Re: Daimler 15 starting

The fluid flywheel WILL work both ways, but requires moderately high speeds (I guess about 20 mph in top gear) to couple. It works in the same way as it provides engine breaking under normal driving conditions. The driving & driven members are basically the same construction and there is no oil pump...

Re: Daimler Conquest Drophead steering box

The rocker shaft and/or bushes are probably worn. The bushes can be replaced with the steering box in situ, the shaft may need machining as well. You can pull the bushes into the steering box with a piece of threaded rod and appropriate spacers. Get bushes smaller ID than the machined shaft and ream...

Re: SP250 Starter motor fixings

This is from a V8 saloon, makes assembly a whole lot easier!! Spacer is not usual, probably there to correct an error with pinion mesh (perhaps a non standard starter??).
