Re: V8 Saloon Front Springs

Martin Robey is a knowledgable supplier.. so worth contacting.. I dont have any 1st hand info, but faintly recall that the springs for the 2.4 Mk2 Jaguar are same as those used on our Daimler versions.. Today spring design has improved as have sources for metal alloys.. also try the company 'Supplex...

Re: SP250 spares prices?

one approach is to ask :- What would I want to pay for it ? I suspect there are more SP250 engines than V8 2 1/2 litre saloon engines in USA..(saloons were never officially imported) the former have more value due to the cars being rare and parts hard to come by.. I paid $ 2,000 for 2 dismantled sal...

Re: V8 250 Brake pads

When compared to modern cars, the pioneering but now ancient Dunlop brakes on the daimler SP and V8 saloons have very small pad area, and hence the pads have to work very hard to slow the cars weight and bulk .. modern pads tend to be very soft ( which gives them more 'bite' per amount of pedal pres...

Re: V8 Saloon Poly or metalastic bushes?

Be aware that 'Poly bushes' come in various grades of hardness and quality .. the original metalastic bushes as used on rear suspension arms have a very long life ( minimally 150k miles) and require no lubrication .. there are specific places that are better served by poly bushes on our cars .. one ...

Re: Gearbox disaster

fluid dripping between engine and box when engine is running in the manner you describe is most likely a sign that the front seal that wraps around torque converter has failed.. I have the self same issue with a Mk2 jaguar that was standing unused for many years ( with the same DG box as used in SP ...

Re: California State ID

these I.D tags were most commonly used from mid 70s through early 90s and were issued by highway patrol. ( and still available today for cars with no existing vin plate ) reasons a little ambiguous, but generally it was down to the local DMV department requesting a 'new' id in order to register a ca...

Re: NZ Classic Driver magazine

My observation has been that the classic car magazines in NZ are generally very high quality with superb articles.. the vintage car club is also very well organized with branches in every province..

Re: v8 2.5 high oil pressure

Buckfield :- the standard electrical gauges are notoriously innacurate.. they commonly read low with the passing of time .the issue is almost always the sender unit which is sensitive to heat exposure. Mechanical guages are known to be more reliable .. but obviously qualities vary.. the smith/britis...

Re: V8-250 Saloon: Front Seats - Manual & Automatic

as stated by buckfield :- on the manual cars, the inner edges at front of cushion are cut out to accommodate the gear lever.. the radius is approx 4 1/2" at very front (aligns with 3rd pleat on seat base) and follows a steady curve with ends with the cross beading to the central pleats... the cover ...

Re: V8-250 Saloon: Key Numbers

ignition and door locks were same key ..boot and glove box same key.( but sometimes locks get replaced) IF you dont have the key number(s).. ignition lock barrel is easy to remove.. remove the thumbscrews holding the dash panel and swing it down..undo the bezel and remove ign switch.. look at the al...
