Re: Registration number archives

Hi David, Firstly, how is your own restoration going? My experience with the JDHT is that, in exchange for a fee, they should be able to supply a date that your chassis number left the factory, and possibly the dealer to whom it was consigned. That seems to be the price that the club paid when handi...

Re: 1951 DB18 Consort steering box

Graham: as per my reply in you previous topic " One week of Ownership" , the recommended procedure is for the steering box to be removed, complete with column, via the interior of the car. David Beales' DB18 workshop manual, which can be purchased from his eBay shop, includes the procedure.

Daimler Door Hinges

Thanks for the reply David: the car came with the doors off and hinges still attached to door itself without any shims either in situ or loose in with the removed components. I did test the effect of fitting shims by inserting washers between the back of the hinge and the B post but found that the r...

DB18 Door Hinges

I'm on a mission to adjust the door hinges of my Barker SS so that I don't have to slam the drivers door shut. The passenger side shuts nicely, so I have a measure of what should be possible. The SS door profile has two distinct shoulders when viewed from the front and I can see that the larger shou...

Re: One week of ownership

It wasn't cheap Graham : £1900 + VAT for a complete rebuild. Unfortunately, he is the only person that I could find with the knowledge, tools and spare parts for the Marles box. Suggest a phone call and he might indicate a cost based upon the symptoms you describe. Removing the box was a bit long wi...

Re: One week of ownership

Hi Graham, Marles Steering Boxes can overhaul your steering box, although it will have to be removed from the vehicle and delivered to their Herefordshire premises. If it helps, I can send you the special crate that I had made so that my steering box could be couriered there. They have a website or ...

Re: conquest chassis lubrication

Bryan, If you do decide to convert to grease nipples, and assuming that the Conquest has the same number of lubrication points as the DB18, you will need 17 . Mine came from Namrick and were all 1/8 BSP thread with the following angles.. 7x 45deg, 6 X 90deg, 4 x straight. The caveat here is that the...

Re: Ss rear axle

Hi David, I didn't find any breathers on the axle tubes when I dismantled my SS rear axle assembly, I also didn't find any signs of gaskets at either end of the axle tubes, so I didn't use any when the axle was rebuilt . I may have been naive, but my assumption was that there was a seal in the diffe...

Re: special sport front brakes

David, My copy of the David Beales booklet includes two pages about the Girling Two Leading Shoe Brake, and mentions that two versions of the bellcrank and strut arrangement are used. When I recommissioned the front brakes of my Special Sports, I adjusted the bellcranks to take out the play and then...

Daimler Instruction Book

I have recently been given, by an acquaintance clearing out his step father's garage, a photocopy of the Daimler Instruction and Catalogue of Parts covering the following models Special 45 Standard 30 Light Thirty I'm happy to pass this on for free to any member to whom it would be useful. Please em...
