Re: SS/Empress rev couner reduction gearbox
Morning David,
I don’t have an photo of the gearbox internals , just this external photo that shows the clamping arrangement. From memory, there are only the two gear wheels on shafts inside the assembly.

Re: 1951 DB 18 SS steering column question
Hi Mark, The best source of information about the DB18 SS trafficator switch is Steve Moore’s technical article on the DB18.org website. Also this link , although written for the Austin Healey, is the identical switch fitted to our own Daimlers. http://www.acmefluid.com.au/larry/trafficator.html Fin...

Re: Special sports exhaust
David, I’m thinking that you may have transposed the front and rear boxes? On my car, the larger silencer is at the front and sits horizontally, the rear silencer is smaller and sits at about 45 degrees just inside the chassis rail.

Re: Special sports exhaust
That’s bad timing David: last week my SS was in its home garage on stands, this week it’s in storage on its wheels. I assume that you have fabricated brackets using the illustrations in the Parts Catalogue, but not sure how brackets are attached to the chassis? I don’t recall any support for the fro...

Re: AC Car Clock
Thanks Migray, it’s the same for the DB18 clock; the internal mechanism is exactly like that shown in the clocks4classics website, just a different front face and back plate. So that’s the way to go for me, half the price of converting to quartz and retaining much more originality.

Re: 1951 DB 18 boot latch
Mike,
This is the part that is fixed to the boot floor
[attachment=0]IMG_0588-min.jpeg[/attachmentu]
But you probably mean the part under the panel that Db n j mentioned ? In which case I can return to the garage on Saturday with a suitable screwdriver to remove said panel.

Re: AC Car Clock
Thank you all for your input. Having an electronics background and wanting to retain as much of the original internals as possible, I was preferring the clocks4classic option, but their website is adamant that the kit only fits certain models of Smith or Jageur clock. JDO have confirmed that they ca...
