Re: Fuel Additives

Some thoughts to share having restored db18s 1. DB18 cast iron heads do not have hardened exhaust valve inserts. I had a head fully reconditioned with hardened inserts and bronze guides etc specially made. I also have an Austin Atlantic iron head and have just had it fully reconditioned with new har...

Re: DB18 Torque Values

A good many people overtighten wheel nuts. And the definition of tight varies significantly between people. But DB18s have relatively large nuts and fine threads so I use a special heavy duty socket and bar but I only tighten them so that nuts are firm never brute force tight. But the best thing you...

Re: Special Sports fuel issue

I have found on all my old cars that it is essential to acid treat and ReCoat the fuel tank. All old cars have rusty dirty fuel tanks. Even relatively good tanks contain significant debris which will effect reliability. I have often found that tank breathers are also blocked or partially blocked. Ma...

Re: 1951 Daimler special sport drophead

Hi Peter have to agree. These are such difficult cars to restore properly but one really shouldn't compromise. Love the colour but the non standard colour line is more than just not correct it is plain ugly. The interior is vinyl not leather and badly wrong. Restoring these faithfully is expensive a...

Re: Consort gearbox in a Special Sports

Hi everyone I thought someone might be interested in my experience in rebuilding a Special Sports gearbox. My car was running until around 1985. By this stage it was very tired. The planetary gears especially overdrive hub had overheated because the bronze bushes between gear sets had worn so badly ...

Re: Affordable Corniche Convertible

The Corniche is a really lovely car to drive and be in. I restored a 1975 Silver Shadow which was a great car and very reliable once sorted. The Corniche has noticeably more performance and it really shows adding to driving fun. A good non rusty car is an essential starting point. The mechanical rep...

Re: Special Sports Steering Specifications

Thanks for the comments. Most helpful. I do know that my SS has a different parts list to a standard DB18. The two steering columns are different! I have to get new bearings and seals for mine.

Re: Pre-selector gearbox over haul

As part of the restoration process of my Special Sports considerable work has been completed. The bronze bushes between the gears do wear out. An overdrive exacerbates this. The bearings wears as do seals the oil pump and bands. A full rebuild is not for the faint hearted. However if you can take of...

Re: Unloved Daimler Regency II

Well, here you go Hugh, here's your chance for another one then! It is available. Although needing restoration apparently reasonably solid and will run. Hi Chris I would happily buy my old 104 back again. Indeed would love to. Buying cars out of Australia is now almost impossible due to anti asbest...

Re: Unloved Daimler Regency II

I believe that the Recency had the petrol cap hidden under a neat flap while the 104 may not have. But it's hard to know. The numbers of these cars actually made are really small. I owned 2 of them and while flawed were really very nice to drive. I always regret selling the one I restored. Cheers Hu...
