V8 250 auto gearbox fluid

When my gearbox and torque converter were rebuilt 4 or 5 years ago, Dexron 2 fluid was put in. During a recent conversation with Chris Seabrook he commented that Dexron 2 is "too slippery". Looking at alternatives I see that Comma ATF is designed for use with gearboxes such as the BW35. There is als...

Re: How to clean up black plastic trim?

My car cleaning kit now includes a small jar of smooth peanut butter! I tried it in mid February and the results were startling. I wish I'd had the presence of mind to take "before" and "after" photos because the improvement is quite spectacular. I discussed it with the owner of a local car body sho...

Re: How to clean up black plastic trim?

Thanks to you all for the comments and suggestions. Good to know that I can either spend a fortune on a specialist product that doesn't have a lasting effect or get a spread made from a legume from the supermarket! Fascinating video showing an alternative use for peanut butter. Note for Dave (Db n j...

How to clean up black plastic trim?

This query relates to my (new to me) Saab 9-5 Aero Hot Estate (a veritable wolf in sheeps' clothing with 260 bhp!!). The car drives superbly and looks great, it is a very very dark grey (or light black if there is such a colour?). There are various body parts that are made of what I regard as black ...

Re: V8 250 Significant Change in Oil Pressure

Thanks Ian, very helpful. I'm familiar with electronic systems such as Bragg Cells or Piezo electric semiconductor systems that have variable optical outputs commensurate with pressure, but couldn't imagine anything "lower tech" that would work to create variable electric output. I'd never have cons...

Re: V8 250 Significant Change in Oil Pressure

I ended up fitting a Mann WE916/1 filter to replace the existing screw on filter. As a consequence the oil pressure gauge shows readings (both hot and cold) better than the existing filter but still slightly lower than the readings the gauge showed before the oil change. Can any forum member explain...

Re: DLOC badge.

These occasionally appear on ebay or some classic car parts websites. 5 years ago I paid £3.50 plus postage for a black one (as shown in Marcel's posting) and a brass coloured one to a man selling off his dad's automotive bits and pieces. Both of mine seem to come from the same mould / casting becau...

Re: V8 250 Significant Change in Oil Pressure

I spoke to Flexolite today about suitable or recommended filters for the V8 250 conversion. It occurs to me that others might find the information useful so here is the information from Flexolite:- Mann WE916/1 Fram PH2857A Crosland 357 Any similar compatible high quality oil filter with a 3/4 inch ...

Re: V8 250 Significant Change in Oil Pressure

Thank you all for the comments. I seem to recall reading somewhere that on SP 250 engines it's possible to have an airlock in the oilway that feeds the oil pressure unit which can skew the oil pressure reading. Might it be possible, I wonder, to have the same uncommon condition on a V8 250 engine? I...

V8 250 Significant Change in Oil Pressure

My V8 250 saloon has shown good oil pressure since the engine rebuild (indicated 65 psi cold, 50 psi running hot at 3000 revs). 4 weeks ago I changed the oil (used the same oil - Morris Golden Film Classic 20-50) and at the same time replaced the screw-in oil filter (with exactly the same product fr...
