Re: Daimler Conquest Century saloon 1953 LWO 647

Thanks Henry, do you know the car at all? You may be amused to know that after I took those 24hp parts off you in Feb, my Audi broke down in Surrey and I have only just retrieved it. The chaps who did the work were most interested in the box of 'ignition parts'. They had never seen auto electrics th...

Daimler Conquest Century saloon 1953 LWO 647

This looks like quite a nice car. I don't know much about this era of Daimlers, but I don't think it is actually a Century? The vendor usually buys at auction, then advertises at twice the auction price, but this doesn't look bad value at under £8K. NIce colour scheme too. Does anyone know the car? ...

Re: 1939 DE27 for sale

So much for CCA thinking it was worth £15K then.

Re: 1939 DE27 for sale

Looking at it again, I think David is right - it does appear to be a single Solex, and the air silencer for it appears to be in the rear passenger compartment (picture with the offside rear door open, is that black cylindrical thing an air silencer?). I guess it wouldn't be too hard to fit the inlet...

Re: 1939 DE27 for sale

It says £20,000 invested, but I am struggling to see where. The engine bay is a mess, wiring all over the place, and it appears to be missing a carburettor. Definitely a Barker, as DR Nash says, but remember that by this period, Barker's had been bought out by Daimler, so it is essentially a factory...

Definitely NOT a pre-war car. More like 1948. Yet another car that Churchill is supposed to have travelled in, but didn't. Well over-priced at £15-20K.

Re: 104 Sportsman Tyres

Well, its a relief to know I am not wrong. Hopefully Barrie has the information he needs to make a tyre choice.

Re: 104 Sportsman Tyres

And yet you provided the mathematical theory anyway? I thought he was just trying to get tyres that fit, but perhaps I am wrong.

Re: 104 Sportsman Tyres

No need to check or calculate any circumferences, since the ratio of circumference to diameter is fixed. Smaller diameter, smaller circumference. So just make sure the tyre has enough diameter when inflated to look 'right' in the wheelarch. Radials are always smaller, size for size, so just compare ...
