Re: 1939 DE27 for sale

Looking at it again, I think David is right - it does appear to be a single Solex, and the air silencer for it appears to be in the rear passenger compartment (picture with the offside rear door open, is that black cylindrical thing an air silencer?). I guess it wouldn't be too hard to fit the inlet...

Re: 1939 DE27 for sale

It says £20,000 invested, but I am struggling to see where. The engine bay is a mess, wiring all over the place, and it appears to be missing a carburettor. Definitely a Barker, as DR Nash says, but remember that by this period, Barker's had been bought out by Daimler, so it is essentially a factory...

Definitely NOT a pre-war car. More like 1948. Yet another car that Churchill is supposed to have travelled in, but didn't. Well over-priced at £15-20K.

Re: 104 Sportsman Tyres

Well, its a relief to know I am not wrong. Hopefully Barrie has the information he needs to make a tyre choice.

Re: 104 Sportsman Tyres

And yet you provided the mathematical theory anyway? I thought he was just trying to get tyres that fit, but perhaps I am wrong.

Re: 104 Sportsman Tyres

No need to check or calculate any circumferences, since the ratio of circumference to diameter is fixed. Smaller diameter, smaller circumference. So just make sure the tyre has enough diameter when inflated to look 'right' in the wheelarch. Radials are always smaller, size for size, so just compare ...

Re: 104 Sportsman Tyres

That's a racing tyre, not really suitable (or insurable?) for road use. I think I would go for the Avon Turbosteel radial, which is still expensive enough!!

Re: 104 Sportsman Tyres

Hello Barrie, I am a great fan of Blockley tyres, but whilst they do make a 650/16, it is in their 5 stud design which might not suit the car. Longstone offer Avon crossply (Turbospeed) and radial (Turbosteel) in 670/16, which seem to be about the same overall width, which will preserve the looks an...

Re: Pre war door cards.

Hi Jed, no the door cards are still wearing the original leather, as is the arm rest. The interior was restored by Stan Arblaster around 15 years ago. He clearly put some thought into it. The seat cushions were covered with new leather in a very similar shade of blue to the original, and the door ca...
