Central axle services rebuilt a pair of axles into one serviceable one for me. When installed and filled with oil it was found to have a significant leak out of one of the tube to housing joins as like many others the tubes had become loose. I returned it to them and Tim organised specialist welding...

I'd say that wire is almost certainly an aftermarket addition! I blasted and painted the bottom rail then refitted the glass with some new rubber I got from Woolies trim that is very similar to the original using a rubber mallet. It was tight....but not impossible. I didn't like the bonding idea as ...

Make sure you get it all off! Washing up liquid badly and permanently marks some paints (definitely cellulose) if it is not all completely rinsed off. I learnt the hard way on some difficult window rubbers. A friend recommended Swarfega for this reason.
