Re: Stainless steel exhaust

Stan: Fully concur with your advice re stressing stainless steel exhausts. Also worth mentioning that stainless is more brittle than mild steel and is more likely to fracture if the system is subject to undue strain when in situ. All said I am very happy with the stainless system I had made for my L...

Richard: Great to hear that 'Double S' is still going..... I bought one of their systems for my XJ6 back in 1981!

Re: Stainless steel exhaust

I had a new one bespoke made for my LQ2/20 in 2018. It cost £800 but they did a superb job. I know the LQ engine isn't any performer and was intended to run quietly & smoothly but even so there was no increase in noise.

Re: LQ front axle removal.

Ok Mike, good luck in your endeavours. Having taken one of these joints apart now I am optimistic that a competent Engineer can remake the ball pins and cups which are all easily detachable. This means that the joint casings are re usable and the original steering side rod and track rod can be retai...

Re: LQ front axle removal.

Stop press....the fourth joint that I thought was a non genuine one is in fact a BSA original like the others. What threw me is that the adjuster and lock nut must have vibrated loose decades ago so with all the baked on grease & grime it looked like a more modern non adjustable one. They all have t...

Re: LQ front axle removal.

Thanks again, Ranald. Just got in from the garage after stripping the springs off the axle and breaking the taper on the last two ball joints (so much easier with the axle off the car!) The side rod you refer to should indeed have a 'flat' part way down according to the parts book but mine doesn't a...

Re: LQ front axle removal.

It is, but drags easily enough. It will be a bit more manageable with the springs off.

LQ front axle removal.

After a few afternoons crawling around on a cold garage floor the front axle is now off! (note oversize hammer at the top of the photo) Now to attack the various ball joints and other bits that wouldn't budge when it was on the vehicle and to remove the springs to take for re setting. I am now the w...

Re: LQ2/20 Carburettor help please.

Update: Having taken the carb off now and ordered a new rebuild kit and P61 needle from Burlen I will rebuild the carb over the next week or so. Interestingly the needle that was in there was a number 4 which is the standard fitment for the '15' engine!
