Re: Splined Hub Maintainance & Wear

It's best to think of hub splines and tapers as serving different purposes. The function of the tapers (inner and outer) is to locate and centralise the wheel on the hub, the splines transmit (and resist) torque. The tapers are not essentially of 'locking' form - if they were you'd have the same tro...

Re: SP Front wheel bearings

The inner seal comprises a felt washer and the plate you have found. The Parts Catalogue lists the seal assembly (that presumably comprises both parts) as Part No. 431566. David Manners lists this part (but shows an irrelevant picture of an electrical switch!). It would be worth contacting DM to fin...

Re: SP Front wheel bearings

It's the holder for the inner bearing felt seal. The bent flange locates against a flat on the vertical link.

Re: Chassis No. 100164

Engine number as read by the seller: 7K1190 "K" appears to be a bit strange? Maybe "4" or a Limousine engine? Beat It's almost certainly a saloon block. Saloon engines numbers were prefixed 7A or 7H followed by four digits. Given that engine numbers on the block are not always that clear, the 'K' c...

Thanks all - a follow-up question: how to identify an SP250 engine from a saloon engine? Is there an indicative number that identifies it one way or the other?
This should help.

Re: SP250 spares prices?

A professionally overhauled and rebuilt engine will now cost around £6k exchange. A unit that is running with good oil pressure and no leaks I'd suggest could be worth about £3K. A lot depends on how good the 'good condition' is. An engine and gearbox from a saloon in unspecified condition went rece...

Re: Grab a bargain

They certainly don't look like SP washers. The rectangular holes suggest they're designed for coach bolts, which aren't used on the SP. Since the vendor doesn't seem to know what car they're for, even at the updated price they would seem to have a limited market.

Re: Vredestein Tyres

What's the car, what's the width of the wheels? The Vredestein Classic 185/15 are tubeless tyres but unless your wheels are specifically designed to accept tubeless, you'll need tubes (and well bands)

Re: To switch or not to switch.

Failure to start even though the starter is cranking normally is often a symptom of a tired battery. The problem is 'coil robbing' whereby the voltage drop arising from the starter motor current draw severely reduces the current available through the coil. A common symptom is the engine attempting t...
