Re: Backfiring and loss of power at hgher revs

Thanks to all for the great advice. I checked the condenser and the HV advance mechanism. All ok. Increased the advance setting at the distributor slightly. Now it runs much better - no back firing at higher revs. BR Beat Glad your problem seems to be sorted. When adjusting ignition timing at the d...

Re: Backfiring and loss of power at hgher revs

Is there an easy quick way to check the condenser, I have wondered for years on how to check the odd ones in my old box of bits. MGAguru.com is, as the name suggests, a site dedicated to the MGA. It does however contain a wealth of technical information relevant to not just the MGA but to many cars...

Re: Overheating

You will probably realised by now Richard, that SP owners fall into one of two camps - those that have never experienced overheating and those that encounter it regularly. :? I'll add my three ha'p'orth for what it's worth. After rebuilding my car with a completely overhauled engine (by Russ Carpent...

My understanding is that saloons have either a 7A or 7K engine prefix - the 2.5 V8 was 7A whereas the later V8-250 having the prefix of 7K. The S shaped oil filler was used when the saloon was equipped with a single air filter e...

Re: Re building an engine

Your engine is almost certainly from a saloon. Saloon engines were numbered with either a 7A or 7H prefix - are you sure yours reads 7K? A quick identifier is the oil filler tube; if it's short and straight it's an SP block, if it's long and ' S ' shaped it's from a saloon. If it has been used for s...

Re: SP250 Modified seat hinge - help

Chris Demler is a member of this forum with username CDemler so you could email him. His email is from Germany so I don't know how good his English is. Christian Demler speaks excellent english and he has a lot of SP250 reproduction parts, many of which are unobtainable elsewhere - window regulator...
