Re: SP Indicator Warning Lights

I had a lot of trouble sorting out indicator operation after my restoration Tim. I also had a new Autosparks loom and a Triumph R&P conversion. The symptoms were varied but shared some commonality with your problem. This thread in the old forum may give you some clues if you plough through it. In th...

Re: Door closer locator thread

Anyone --- Thread ? As well as UNC and UNF the Unified thread system also specifies UNS (special) threads for use where the other sizes are not acceptable. The finest standard pitch for a 3/4" UNS is 27 tpi. If your thread is definitely 28 tpi then it could be from the Unified constant pitch series...

Re: Tool for removing knurled rocker cover nuts

The club had a batch made for the SP250 a couple of years ago. The design was less over-engineered than the Russ Carpenter tool - and didn't necessitate removing the plug leads in order to use it. Contact Laurence Jones; his details are in PasSPort or on the SP250 Owners website.

Re: Whats an original number worth

For a special birthday a doting husband bought his wife an expensive present she had longed for since they were married; it cost him £10000. One night while they were asleep, thieves entered their property and stole the gift. On discovering the loss the next day, the wife was distraught. 'Don't wor...

I'd assumed you were referring to the thread joining these two parts....

I don't know the size or the threadform but I'd hazard a guess at a Whitworth instrument thread or possibly UNEF, although it seems finer than that.

Re: painting wire wheels

Powder coating gives a thick, even, tenacious and highly durable finish compared with wet paint and so makes a good finish on wire wheels that have to operate under fairly aggressive conditions. It doesn't 'run' during application which can be a problem with painting wire wheels unless professionall...

Re: SP Front Number plate

Hi Ian, Many thanks for the info, presumably that is for the later (B/C spec) number plates? Front bumpers were not unique to 'B/C' spec. cars; they were an option on 'A' spec cars too. Any car fitted with a front bumper would utilise the two holes you have found to attach the number plate in the m...

Re: SP250 Halfshaft tube oil leak

Thanks Nick for your reply. I assume if the breather is blocked you are saying pressure could build and push oil out of joint? As the axle was shot blasted, painted etc it is a distinct possibilty it has been blocked. Exactly. I also assume that the plug welds are visable and it was not welded from...

Re: SP250 Halfshaft tube oil leak

The axle tubes were not originally sealed in the diff housing - they were pressed in and plug welded. The welds would not always survive long term usage and the tubes would work loose, necessitating re-welding, and so they were usually seam welded around the join to ensure no leakage as well as no m...
