Re: Interesting V8 Saloon - post edited

It does appear that the DP250 - as the Hooper bodied car was designated - was based very closely indeed on the SP250. This rear view of the car (that to my eyes does nothing to enhance the lines) permits a view through the windows that shows what seems to be an almost standard SP dash...... Capture3...

I didn't realise it had actually reached a point where a sales brochure was produced. An interesting piece of history!

Re: SP Inlet manifold removal

I wouldn't be using gravity to break the seal on that inlet manifold. You could easily have the gasket separate and the whole engine landing sharply on the floor resulting in damage to the sump. Just to clarify Fred, I certainly wouldn't advocate lifting the engine clear of the floor - just take th...

Re: SP Inlet manifold removal

I installed my SP engine by lifting it with webbing slings around the inlet manifold, so it's capable of accepting significant load. If you have an engine crane or an overhead hoist, try lifting the engine with strops around the manifold until its just about to clear the floor and give the manifold ...

Re: radiator fan shroud

Daimler offered it as an option for countries with 'High ambient temperatures'. Other than this picture from the Spare Parts Catalogue, I'm not aware of any original drawings.

Re: Backfiring and loss of power at hgher revs

Thanks to all for the great advice. I checked the condenser and the HV advance mechanism. All ok. Increased the advance setting at the distributor slightly. Now it runs much better - no back firing at higher revs. BR Beat Glad your problem seems to be sorted. When adjusting ignition timing at the d...

Re: Backfiring and loss of power at hgher revs

Is there an easy quick way to check the condenser, I have wondered for years on how to check the odd ones in my old box of bits. MGAguru.com is, as the name suggests, a site dedicated to the MGA. It does however contain a wealth of technical information relevant to not just the MGA but to many cars...

Re: Overheating

You will probably realised by now Richard, that SP owners fall into one of two camps - those that have never experienced overheating and those that encounter it regularly. :? I'll add my three ha'p'orth for what it's worth. After rebuilding my car with a completely overhauled engine (by Russ Carpent...

Re: Re building an engine

Hello Nick, Can I just check the information you have provided please. My understanding is that saloons have either a 7A or 7K engine prefix - the 2.5 V8 was 7A whereas the later V8-250 having the prefix of 7K. The S shaped oil filler was used when the saloon was equipped with a single air filter e...
