Re: SP250 cooling
The reason I'm still using my alloy tank is because the one I got from Barry was too long. Rather than butcher it, I sent it back.

Re: SP250 cooling
I'm still using the alloy version produced in small numbers by David Manners many years ago, now in conjunction with an alloy radiator too - no more rust problems anticipated!

Re: Rare Spares?
I remember some years back on the old forum there was a discussion about the "outrageous price" of a pair of new old stock listed on fleabay for £350, some one bought them out of desperation at what was considered a daylight robbery price. Those were the days. I bought my pair (including ...

Re: Rare Spares?
A major problem is that the original links were forged which requires very expensive tooling. Tooling for casting is considerably cheaper which makes it more attractive for producing replacements, however casting microstructure is essentially random and will be much weaker than a forging where the s...

Re: SP250 braking system
To my knowledge the front and rear brake discs, calipers and pads remained unchanged throughout production. The standard front discs are 10.625" dia.; the rear 10.000" dia. The pad form for both front and rear pads is as shown as 'new' in your picture. When fitted the pad retaining pins re...

Re: SP250 Carpets
The introduction of the metal 'A' post frame on the B and C spec cars has made a footprint on the floor that was not there for the A specs. I don't know but assume the pattern of the original floor carpet would have been modified to take account of this.

Police SP's
There's an article in February's Classic and Sports Car magazine on the MGA's and SP250's used back in the day by several police forces. It emphasises the link between the Met's use of SP's and the ton-up boys of the Ace Café on the North circular. Apparently almost 130,000 motor bike riders were ki...

Re: RH EXHAUST DOWN PIPE DART
Bell Silencer is one of the major manufacturer of stainless steel exhaust systems for Classic cars in the UK. They supply the major retailers with complete systems but will also build to private order. I bought a full stainless system for my SP direct from Bell. They keep patterns for the SP250 and...
