Re: 2.5 V8 Dynamo, Regulator

Hi Stewart, I have bought very cheaply original RB340 regulators from auction sites. They generally only require clean up of the contacts to be fully working, and they are well constructed. I have used this Lucas document to get them working to spec: https://www.mg-cars.org.uk/imgytr/pdf/lucas.pdf. ...

Re: Autobox Rear Brake Band adjustment

Hi Barry, The Daimler Service Manual has a diagnostic chart that lists causes of rough downshift 2-1. Recommend you take a look. There is a pdf online for the BW35: https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=http://volvo1800pictures.com/document/BW35_manual/bw35.pdf&ved=2ah...

Re: Transmission Gasket and Fluid

Hi Steve, First, how sure are you it is the sump seal that is leaking? The BW35 is well known for leaking everywhere else - the gear selector shaft seals, the inhibitor switch, the fluid cooler pipe joints and the filler tube. All give the impression the sump might be leaking. Given that the sump mi...

Re: V8-250 saloon: BW35 - Manual Shaft Oil Seal

All, I finally got round to replacing the seals in situ. Was able to it without removing heat shields or anything. I used metal picks to remove old seals, took some time. I did not know until I got them out they are miniature lip seals, with steel core. I used a suitably oversized nut to make sure t...

Re: Lopsided saloon with new rear springs

Hi Mark, I have no real experience, but I have read that the problem might lie with a weak front spring. Think of a chair with one shorter leg. If it rests on the shorter leg, then the opposite leg will be off ground. In same way, the higher rear nearside could be due to weak front offside spring. T...

Re: V8-250 saloon: BW35 - Manual Shaft Oil Seal

Hi Richard, I too have wondered. The service manual instructions for removing the box with the engine in place tells you to remove the engine stabiliser allowing the box to tilt down. See Fig 31 in manual. This may give you access to the seals, but it seems a comprehensive job with no guarantee. Som...

Re: V8 Saloon - Disappearing indicator warning light(s)

Hi Richard, The console warning lights are on a separate circuit from the exterior indicator lights. First they operate from a separate set of contacts inside the flasher unit - these may have got dirty. Secondly there is a separate set of contacts in the turn switch, connecting either the left or r...

Re: Removal of exhaust manifolds

I agree the drain plugs can be removed with the manifolds and exhaust in situ. Can't remember if I removed starter motor for better access. My nearside drain was completely blocked. I was able to clear it using a stiffish plastic irrigation tube plumbed into a hose pipe using a drilled out cork and ...

Re: Viscous fan drive

Hi Keith,

It is my belief that it is the same unit as for XJS V12. I got one a few years back from Moss.

There is even a dissection of one shown on jag lover forum: http://www.jag-lovers.org/xj-s/book/FanClutch.htmllive.

Re: Brake Warning Light: V8-250

Hi Syd,

I checked - and I did use the plastic one. Seems to be in pristine condition still - even the print on it is intact. I guess I changed it more than 5 years ago - I remember posting on the old forum about it.

Regards,
Clive.
