Re: Conquest pre selector gearbox oil

I used Comma SAE 30 classic motor oil in my gearbox and fluid flywheel. Go to their website and enter postcode and tells all suppliers near you. Think it's about £17 5 litres. The website gave me 6 suppliers within about 2 miles of me.

Re: Conquest Century on C&C

Purchase price £1800. Collection by transporter £200. No one removes a perfectly good engine for no reason so almost certainly engine rebuild £3,500 ( based on my recent experience). At £5,500 before you begin the restoration, not sure it makes a viable proposition. What do the panel think ?

Re: Help. DB18 oil pressure

Update - went for a nice ride around Kent today with a great bunch of like minded enthusiasts. Covered 125 miles in total about 80 of them on the motorway and engine didn't miss a beat and no oil leak or loss at all. No oil light !

One happy bunny !

Re: Help. DB18 oil pressure

Thanks Andy and David. This morning I took a large quantity of tranquilisers and got the nerve up to take the car for a decent run for an hour or so including a few miles at 50mph on the motorway. Pleased to report all trouble free. No oil light on even at tickover and no sign of any oil leaks. To a...

Re: Help. DB18 oil pressure

Thanks again to everyone for their advice and help. I take the point that Daimler recommended SAE 30 but straight grade oils were all that was available then and I'm sure if multigrade oils had been available then they would have recommended it. Update on my problem. I drained the oil from the engin...

Re: Help. DB18 oil pressure

Thank you to everyone for your replies. My logic with the choice of oil was that a 40 grade obviously had a higher viscosity then the straight SAE 30 Daimler recommended and a 10W grade would get the oil to all the parts the quickest especially on initial start up hence the Castrol GTX synthetic oil...

Help. DB18 oil pressure

I have just finished rebuilding the engine on my DB18. New liners, new pistons, crank ground, new big ends, new main bearings. Short first test drive at weekend for 3 miles and ran sweet and smooth. Today took it for a longer drive today, about 15 miles with 8 miles on motorway at steady 50 - 55mph....

Re: Well I collected the Daimler 15 Sports Saloon

My steering was also unnerving when I initially got my car back on the road and it was fitted with brand new tyres and the front suspension had been overhauled. I had the tracking checked and that was ok. Then an excellent post was put on the forum by Chris Levitt ( clevitt) about checking and setti...
