Re: 250 v8 rear hub removal (i hope)

One could use the marine system for removing propellers, drill a small hole in the half shaft of a length to be half way into the taper, then cross drill into the longitudinal hole, tap a thread into the longitudinal hole to fit a hydraulic union. To remove the hub next time pump oil or grease into ...

Re: Petrol Smell

I have never heard of an SP having any fire problems in the boot, engine compartment yes, though the SP may be one of the few cars where the pump is in the boot rather than underneath it. I can't actually remember any fuel smell in the boot perhaps check the tank to filler rubber connector.

Re: SP engine removal

There is no problem removing the engine in the garage, you do need to plan what and where you are going to work on the engine, if in the garage then the car must be nose in if in a work shop then tail first. I do recommend purchasing a wheeled engine trolley, depending on what you expect to do on th...

Re: Brake backing plate rusted to bits

Practically any HA axle back plate can be made to fit with slight modification to the caliper bolt spacing, the only difference will be whether the caliper is leading or trailing as that specifies where the cut out for the caliper is

The ratio is usually on a metal tag on the diff casing or on the crown wheel.

Re: Hello everyone

Unless you've R&P steering there is no need to remove the column on an SP you can slide the stator tube out of the wheel then release the horn and indicator for access to the connectors, the adjustable column is slightly easier the the fixed version, OK you lose some steering box oil.

Re: SP 250 Differential (original vs Austin Healey)

If it has drum brakes it's either Triumph, A/H or Morgan, Jaguar had disc brakes all round, not sure about other uses of the same axle, the gear ratio of the axle normally gives a clue, the basic differential housing is standard for many makes, the tube length and and hubs are different for each car...

Re: SP250 Brakes Double Pump

The only time you would need a double pump on the road is if there is something wrong with the bearings, rear axle or caliper alignment, competition possibly as more torque is applied to the rear axle causing the axle tubes to distort and the disc becomes misaligned with the caliper. I fitted new re...
