As Nick says, The oil probably reached the plug thread as you unscrewed it.
If the engine ran smoothly before you removed the plugs, it suggests there is nothing to worry about.

Re: sparkplugs
I recently had a misfire and needed to replace sparkplugs.
I found " Carparts 4 Less" on the web. 8 x NGKBP6ES for £13.20 inc. free delivery.
Great value and cured the misfire.

Re: tooth count on starter
Just a thought, the SP ring gear was designed by Daimler and the v8250 by Jaguar.
The gear rings may not even be the same pitch.
Car manufacturers often used completely non-standard gear pitches to prevent copying by industrial gear suppliers.

Re: tooth count on starter
If the starter pinion for the sp. has been designed correctly, it could have either 10 or 11 teeth and this would not affect the engagement to the starter ring gear.

Re: SP Master cylinder
Wilf, I think the originals were never painted but possibly zinc or cadmium plated. The reason the reservoir is separate to the cylinder body is that it needs to be offset due to the close proximity of the clutch reservoir. Unfortunately brake fluid is an excellent paint stripper. If a plastic reser...

Re: SP Master cylinder
Unfortunately, in my experience, the replacements are not much better. Not too long ago I bought a new tin can from B.T.,nicely painted black. Within a few months the paint had all peeled off due to the outside of the can being permanently wet. I have come to the conclusion that the top rim of the c...

Re: SP250 rear ends
Hi Peter, Good to hear you are up and running.
I rebuilt a condition 1 axle earlier this year and have done about 1000 miles since.
If you do need a crown wheel and pinion set, Barry Thorne has them and is probably the cheapest in the U.K.

Re: SP250 rear ends
There are two internal differences between series 1 and series 2 axles. On series 2 the imput pinion shaft journal behind the gearteeth, is larger in its diameter, thus giving greater torsional strength. The differential bearing carrier journals are larger in diameter and therefore this casting is s...

Yes the plate inside the B post is loosely fixed.
The holes in the fibreglass are oversize to allow some adjustment.
