Re: Crankshaft damper

Following on from the last response, the other alternative on similar lines is to use the breaker bar and have it wedged against part of the chassis. On turning the engine slightly on the starter this will free the nut off its thread. It will certainly test the quality of your socket !!

Re: 104 Sportsman Tyres

I see from a road test that the original cross-ply tyres were 650/16 and it would be useful to know what the circumference of that tyre is so that I can match it as near as possible with a radial I did indeed, Mark, purely to show how to determine the circumference dimension which he was looking to...

Re: Siezed engine STILL.!

Brian, Staking was an early / old system to ensure that the crank web plug remained in situ. This generally comprised of a flat oval plate that was shaped & peened over the web hole; this was to prevent the web plug from becoming loose which it was / can prone to do, due to centrifugal force as ...

Re: Push rod difference

I suspect the difference in wall thickness is due to a slight design change in production methods, over the years. Which way around that is, I do not know - but my money would be the thinner items came afterwards; purely down to cost saving savings & shrinkflation - even then !! What is paramoun...

Obviously !!

The OP was actually asking what the circumference figure was and that has been confirmed - twice; he was not asking to prove what the mathematical theory was.

Re: 104 Sportsman Tyres

Barrie. If we take the Blockley Tyre 650/16 size dimensions, then the stated diameter is 28.90". To find the circumference we need this formula: C=2π r - where C is the circumference, π is Pi quoted at 3.1415 [accepted as 3.14] and r is the radius. Thus, The radius is always 50% of a diameter -...

Re: 1924 Lanchester 21HP

Had the car sold at £12K it would have been an excellent result - a long way from the estimated £20-£25K. With the bidding going no further than £12K is that reflective of the car and / or its condition ?? But might it also give an indication of the current interest in such cars [such as Lanchester]...

Re: 1924 Lanchester 21HP

Just an update, if anyone is interested, I have checked and this one was 'Passed', not sure if any bids but whatever presumably did not reach the reserve - guide was £20-25k (maybe the lower figure was the reserve). Antony Auction houses never give an indication of the Reserve, be it implied or oth...

Re: Aftermarket Fan Wiring Help Needed

It always stumps me why classic car owners do not set their electric fans to run on after the engine is switched off, which I mentioned very early on. As Richard has mentioned it makes a huge difference to cooling the temperature of the rad coolant and also moves the air around the engine bay to pre...

Re: Aftermarket Fan Wiring Help Needed

Just be careful to check the relay provided, if it has a diode within it, it will be polarity sensitive and if the wrong way round will produce a dead short. Look on the casing for a diode symbol and ensure you fit it with the pointy end to the positive, in your case earth. I suspect the relay supp...
