Re: Piston ring gap 2.5 v8 engine

0.62mm or 0.0244" is excessive and well out of limits. I do recall an MGA with 3 inch bores and correct ring widths although it did run 3 compression rings per cylinder not 2 I will find out the radial depths just to check but I'm sure they fit so two sets would do you a treat. I will have to p...

Re: Piston ring gap 2.5 v8 engine

Old Hepolite gaps for both compression rings were recommended at 0.003" pre inch of bore minimum so as the 2.5 V8 has 3.000" bore this gives a ring gap of 0.009 (0.228 mm) Minimum (as more damage will be done with too little end gap than with too great) but your end gap of 0.020" (0.5...

Re: Piston ring gap on new engine build *How important is it?*

How do you explain this. “Pistons must be fitted with great care and accuracy and both piston and cylinder bore should be clean and without any lubricant” SP250 engine manual. Next to fig. D. 39 I can not explain this instruction, I didn't write it nor do I have access to any of their books of knowl...

Re: Piston ring gap on new engine build *How important is it?*

The correct gap according to Hepolite (as was) is .003" per inch of bore so on the Darts 3.000" that is 0.009" minimum gap More damage can be caused by to little gap I always erred on the side of caution and ran .010" + and adjusted the gap with a good quality flat fine file. dep...

Re: fitting boot hinges

looking at the hinge it looks like there is a shadow of where the washers were so could it be that the bolts are fitted from the back of the mount and then washers and nuts are fitted to the hinge?

How about the comedy the fast Lady, an SP spanking it past the Bentley brief but definitely a Daimler in it's best stride.

Re: SP250 Parking Sensors

my answer to this problem is to politely ask her to step out and tell me when I'm an inch or to off bumping into an object, works rather well except in inclement weather, oh and she's rather an expensive unit to run.

Re: SP250 Distributor

Hello Sporty, If you wish I can send you a piece of felt, it's from a strip about a foot long I bought from Payen the gasket maker when they were a good company based in Slough, sadly now bought out and moved over seas. So let me know what length you want and pm or e-mail your address.
Regards John

Re: ‘O seal” located between rear main bearing cap and engine block ??

Good Morning Brian, In my logic, seal 'J' would be used on the feed hole to the block as you have identified but you would need a rebate for it to sit in as its a machined mating surface so I would be omitting it , unfortunately I cant get to my block at the moment to see what I have to compare so i...
