V8 Saloon gone lopsided again
As you may remember I replaced the o/s rear spring earlier this year after some difficulty due to parts not fitting. However after fitting the car was dead level to the eye with a spirit level only showing a slight lean to the n/s. The car covered some 80 or so miles before being put into garage las...

Re: Daimler V8 saloon rear spring replacement-warning
Well at last we got it to fit! Firstly removed eye bolt and inserted from other side so that one side of hole in eye bush is about 1 -2 mm higher than mounting hole. Slackened centre mounting and inserted long piece of 2x2 wood near eye end and levered eye end of spring downwards and lo and behold s...

Re: Daimler V8 saloon rear spring replacement-warning
So we still have problems fitting new spring. As said I have to await spare time of one of my son to assist due to weight of spring. Our conclusion is that the spring supplied from our major spares suppliers is twisted albeit only 1 or 2 degrees. We can insert the eyebolt as far as the other side in...

Re: HELP major engine problem
Yes unfortunate that Russ has a one year wait, however this was also the case when I booked my car with him some 6 years ago. However he had a cancellation at short notice and I was able to get his engine rebuild and several other drivetrain problems sorted by him. However I do not think that Russ w...

Re: Daimler V8 saloon rear spring replacement-warning
I would just take a grinder to the bush and grind 1.5mm off each side Thanks had thought likewise but sorry that would not work as removing that amount off inner spindle would leave bush being clamped against mounting. The problem with the bush is that the outer is too wide with inner spindle/bolt ...

Re: E10 fuel and other matters
I believe that the hysteria about ethanol ( more properly called ethyl alcohol ) based fuels is just that . For the first 250,000 miles of my motoring career , from about 1962 to 1973, my preferred fuel was Cleveland Discol which at one stage was a blend of 75:25 petrol to alcohol. I never suffered...

Re: Daimler V8 saloon rear spring replacement-warning
Firstly thanks to all with their comments and suggestions. I will replace one and see what happens. To continue however ........ Ordered a spring now available from one of the major suppliers and son and I tried to fit today. Riveted straps so no problem fitting into body recess but noted one strap ...

Re: Daimler V8 saloon rear spring replacement-warning
Thanks for comments Syd.
No only replacing one as car only sags in one corner. I had also wondered if the S-type or even the 240 or 340 had a less restrictive forward spring mounting.

Daimler V8 saloon rear spring replacement-warning
Hi I came to the conclusion about a year ago that my O/S rear roadspring needed replacement due to lean of car. At that time there was zero stock at all key suppliers. However I found one on E-bay. Due to Covid regs my son (51!) who was lined up to help me on this replacement was due to distance/ Co...

Re: Seats & Headlining
Many thanks again Richard. The seat belt mounting points as shown in your picture are non existent on my car. This may be of course that in my 65 made V8 exported to NZ seat belts were not obligatory and the mounting points I Have are aftermarket mods made in NZ.( It returned to UK in 2008) I have a...
