Re: Complete lack of power under load, V8 Saloon.

I can't remember the exact process as my books are still in the UK with the car and my son, I seem to remember you have about a 1/4 turn and you give it a quick flick, with the points plate removed you will see the weights and springs, if they don't fly undo the screw in the shaft under the rotor ar...

Re: Complete lack of power under load, V8 Saloon.

Check the distributor advance mechanism is working, with the points plate removed you can see the springs and weights, with the rotor arm in place you should be able to turn the rotor and shaft a small amount and watch the weights fly out. Should you not be able to do this the top shaft has seized t...

Re: SP 250 seat belts

The two lap fixings will pick up existing chassis bolts for B/C spec cars, whether A specs will pick up a chassis bolt outboard of the seat I'm not sure, if using modern type solid clips each side of the tunnel then a right angle mounting is required. The shoulder strap mount on the wing does not ne...

Re: Early SP rear engine seal

All SP's have the piston rig oil seal as standard, the later V8 250 have the chevron type seal, If an SP has the chevron type seal it either has an 250 saloon engine or has a modified rear bearing cap and block. The front "seal" is a scroll, reasonably effective if the cam chain cover is f...

Re: Spare wheel cover

If the hole has screw holes surrounding the hole then the cover is from a wire wheeled car, cars with wire wheels have a metal dome covering the hole, if no screw holes then maybe someone made a cover from a wire wheeled car cover. The pressed steel wheel does not need a hole as the wheel centre is ...

Re: SP250 - Hood Frame question

If the hood is not secured to the rail, when folding down the rear of the hood can be hood can be pulled forward over the front part thus causing less of a crease more a roll to the rear window, thus allowing the two quarter windows to sit neatly, if you have the hood bag the folded hood has a much ...

Re: Daimler V8250 Close Coupled Saloon?

The description close coupled is perhaps another phrase for 2+2 without saying there ain't no room in the back, if on the SP chassis there wouldn't be with that length of boot. Nick's photo of the Hooper is the one I saw, the grill on the FB page car is similar to that of a Jag XJ 6 in Sovereign for...

Re: Daimler V8250 Close Coupled Saloon?

I have a vague recollection of seeing the photograph many moons ago, possibly in the DM in the middle 70's, based on the SP chassis, looks very Facel Vaga ish

Re: Alternators in a Dynamo body

Charging at 1500rpm is about right for the dynamo, not worn or tired, the car was designed to rev at 6000rpm, the dynamo is geared not to overspeed at that rpm, consequentially with modern congestion on our roads and speed limits the chances of charging the battery are getting few and far between. M...

Re: SP250 Front Wing - tell tale mark on joint?

The parts catalogue shows the front wing sections, the SP unlike other GRP cars of its era was made of many individual mouldings which were fitted to a master mould and glassed together, any decent repair would not show on the underside, what you describe may well be the result of an accident where ...
