Re: Fuel reserve solenoid

The solenoid units themselves are usually pretty long lived and don't give much trouble. Mine was languishing in a damp garage for more than thirty years before I refitted it to a new tank but it still works perfectly. If it does fail the likeliest causes are the wiring either shorting or going open...

Re: recommendations for protection of uni-body car

A few years ago I had my Mustang treated by Krown UK. I described the process in a Mustang Club forum post at the time.
Five years on and the protection has held up very well - no signs of corrosion on any of the treated surfaces.

I recently restored a '48 MG and found this piping - certainly not the cheapest - to be a good approximation to the original; plus it was available in the colour I needed (dark blue). On the MG the rear wings are scre...

Re: what gasket glue for Rocker cover, and do I glue both sides, or just one

Russ Carpenter glues the gaskets to the rocker cover with Polyurethane adhesive before fitting and I believe leaves the other side clean. This ensures the gasket corners stay in place and don't pull in causing leaks. I follow this practice, standing the cover with the gasket glued in place on a piec...

Re: Carburettor fuel leaking

Before you remove the lid give the float chamber a sharp tap with a spanner, that will often free up a sticky float or valve. If that doesn't work and you find the float isn't leaking (if it is it needs replacing - ethanol proof floats are sometimes available and it would be worth using those to avo...
