On the question of head thickness :- 3.0" when new... with std pressed steel gaskets skimming up to .035" can be utilized..
The alternative 'composite' gaskets as supplied today are approx .040" thick.. in practice these allow for a safe skim of +/-.060"

Re: V8-250 Saloon: Pedal Box
pedal boxes are same for RHD and LHD cars.. the early ones on jaguars (up to approx '1966 model year) also have exact same operating arms as manual cars, which are adjoined by one large plate which bolts to ends of operating arms and serves as brake pedal...(essentially the clutch arm serves as a 'd...

Re: V8 saloon Idle speed
800 rpm @ idle is about right.. if it changes when you blip the throttle , the most likely issue is worn throttle shafts ... this will cause inconsistencies as to where the butterfly(s) close.. and always gives an unpredictable idle... easy too check.. grab the end of one of the throttle shafts firm...

Re: Jaguar 340 Engine/Gearbox removal
Reply to Christopher Story:- its true that the film clearly shows a 2.4 litre version with its downdraft solex carbs in place in the lowering of body to drivetrain..(at a point close to 15 mins in in the sequence of placing the drivetrain on tressles ..you will observe a 3.4 engine and overdrive box...

Re: Jaguar 340 Engine/Gearbox removal
if you watch videos of the factory building the cars.. ( Available to view on you tube there is 'Tour of jaguar factory 1961' which shows all stages of production of the Mk2) you will see that the engine and box was placed on top of front subframe ( along with driveline and rear axle) and the cars b...

Re: Splined Hub Maintainance & Wear
wear in splined hubs is a common and often overlooked issue .. fortunately the threads are 'handed' so the likelihood of losing a wheel under braking is mitigate somewhat. there is information on several sites that sell and service spoke wheels as to what to look for to determine if there is wear :-...

Re: V8 Saloon Front Springs
Martin Robey is a knowledgable supplier.. so worth contacting.. I dont have any 1st hand info, but faintly recall that the springs for the 2.4 Mk2 Jaguar are same as those used on our Daimler versions.. Today spring design has improved as have sources for metal alloys.. also try the company 'Supplex...

Re: SP250 spares prices?
one approach is to ask :- What would I want to pay for it ? I suspect there are more SP250 engines than V8 2 1/2 litre saloon engines in USA..(saloons were never officially imported) the former have more value due to the cars being rare and parts hard to come by.. I paid $ 2,000 for 2 dismantled sal...

Re: V8 250 Brake pads
When compared to modern cars, the pioneering but now ancient Dunlop brakes on the daimler SP and V8 saloons have very small pad area, and hence the pads have to work very hard to slow the cars weight and bulk .. modern pads tend to be very soft ( which gives them more 'bite' per amount of pedal pres...

Re: V8 Saloon Poly or metalastic bushes?
Be aware that 'Poly bushes' come in various grades of hardness and quality .. the original metalastic bushes as used on rear suspension arms have a very long life ( minimally 150k miles) and require no lubrication .. there are specific places that are better served by poly bushes on our cars .. one ...
