Re: Runbaken Oil Coil - a discovery
Hi Graham, The Runbaken Coil was an after-market fitment and were very popular pre and just post war, and were capable of delivering a very good spark - and usually did not deteriorate much with age, although all coils will go down eventually. However, there are better coils available now - such as ...

Re: Front coil spring
Good morning Trevor, (or should I say G'day as you are in Oz.)? There are proper spring compressors available which consist of two long threaded rods and threaded "hooked blocks" which pre-compress the spring before fitting. Ask around some of the older garages they might have something wh...

Re: Stuck cylinder head
The method described in the previous post video is not applicable to removing cylinder head studs as in Davidian's case.
However, as I posted earlier, if Davidian wishes to P.M's me, I'll gladly talk him though how to Anne Boylen his Lanchester.

Re: Stuck cylinder head
A sound idea Davidian, but I suspect there is not sufficient thread protruding through the head to wholly accommodate two nuts, notwithstanding the stud might be sufficently corroded not to give way -with the possibility of damaging the thread which is sacrocant to achieving the correct torque when ...

Re: Stuck cylinder head
Don't butcher your engine as being suggested.
Make some Plasticine "reservoirs" around each stud and fill with penetrating oil or diesel and leave it for a day or two.

Re: DB18 compression test.
As the previous post explains, the compression in an engine relies upon many factors. but simply put, it is nothing whatever to do with complression ratio, which is merely a theoretical comparitor. Furthermore, compression is nothing to do with your sooty plugs, which is a rich mixture, not oil cons...

Re: Current conundrum
With everything switched off, momentarily close the regulator contacts. One will do nothing, the other should give a slight spark. The contact that "sparked" is the cut-out which switches the dynano out of circuit when stationary - otherwise the battery would discharge through the dynamo. ...

Re: DB18 Misfiring
Nevertheless, as explained in my previous post, an engine-static spark test will not detect a malfunction in the ignition system, only that no spark is being generated either in total (in which case the engine would run at all) or wholly non-sparking on one cylinder - which would produce a constant ...
