Re: Help the Aged.

As I have just started my 7th decade I'm starting to wonder if the answer to my sign off is NO but I'll keep trying. Nick As one Nick to another, you'll be fine. I didn't start to tackle the mouldering 'autojumble' in the garage until well into my sixties. With advancing years comes the realisation...

Help the Aged.

As I move inexorably into my ninth decade my loving daughter has decided that appropriate birthday pressies would be banners for the garage to remind me what's in there and more importantly, where it's supposed to park........ Re: petrol filter

Not sure why your filter is leaking but just to be clear, the reassembly sequence is first to replace the mesh disc then the rubber seal and finally the glass bowl before tightening up.

Re: Petrol leak by connection to carburettors

Just out of interest the original SP250 petrol filter incorporated a tap in the cover to isolate the fuel supply before cleaning the filter.

These seem to be quite rare these days and have often been replaced by the 'tapless' type.

Re: Engine ‘lumpy’ when cruising above 1500rpm

Certainly sounds like a fuel problem. A simple thing to check would be to remove the two carburettor suction chambers and pistons and examine the jets for any debris and the needles for any corrosion - which can result from ethanol in the fuel.

Re: Petrol leak by connection to carburettors

Hello Richard I believe the float chamber lid casting is the same for both the right and left hand carbs on both the SP and the saloon. The differences are how they're machined for the fuel feed and overflow connections. Opposite to the saloon, the fuel filter is mounted on the left of the SP and as...

Re: Petrol leak by connection to carburettors

If the fuel hoses have not been changed for some time it would certainly be wise to replace them - their ethanol resistance is probably unknown. If you prefer the look, stainless steel braided ethanol proof hose is available nowadays, from this site for example. They also sell the vinyl end caps for...

Re: V8 reluctant to idle below 800 RPM (air leak?).

Brian - I can assure you the company that built Mark's engine will not have any issues with seating valves correctly. Richard. Any reliable engine builder will ensure the correct valve clearances when assembled - but they won't stay that way. My engine was rebuilt by Russ Carpenter and his build sh...

I can certainly recommend Aldridge trimming in Wolverhampton. Not cheap but very good quality.
