Re: SP252

Both Daimler and Jaguar failed the SP in their lack of knowledge in GRP construction, the body shell should have been moulded in two parts similar to many kit cars in the middle to late 50's, certainly the SP252 should have followed Colin Chapman's Elan construction.

Re: SP250 bonnet alignments

It may well be the bonnet securing catch has moved slightly, though there is no real adjustment at the hinges, the actual hinges have play at their pivot, check for a constant gap at the bulkhead end parallel to the windscreen, loosen the bonnet catch or the pin and spring mounting and move the bonn...

Re: SP 250 fuel filter connection

No there isn't a washer, you seem to be showing the Gates ethanol proof pipe crimped to a metal pipe, is that copper? You have two options, 1/. cut the swage off and buy a brake swaging kit, ( fairly cheap) and swage another end, 2/. remove the metal end and if copper or a copper alloy heat it to re...

Re: Engine ‘lumpy’ when cruising above 1500rpm

If you have correctly set up the carburettors you shouldn't have that problem, disconnect the linkages from the both carbs, and set up the mixture and balance at idle, next connect the linkages and ensure there has been no change in idle speed or balance, increase the rpm to 3000 by adjusting the ce...

Re: Engine ‘lumpy’ when cruising above 1500rpm

Whenever I have had problems with carburettors and have no solution I've resorted to throwing them into an ultrasonic cleaner, if that doesn't work it's not the carburettors

Re: Engine ‘lumpy’ when cruising above 1500rpm

Unless the problem is associated with the float valves sticking and releasing when the fuel level is too low, the the other option is the dashpots are pulsing in that they stick weak and then lift to attain the demand then gradually drop and stick.

Re: Seized front brake calipers

They actually have to be really rusty to need a sleeve, the piston and the seal are the critical components, clean away all the loose rust soak in a mixture of molasses to dissolve the rust in the pitting, fit new seals and pistons top up with brake fluid attach a pump to the the fluid inlet and wit...
